Hi, Finally recieved my N scale Challenger and I'm having a little difficulty with some of the programming. I want to lower the speed of the locomotive but CV 5 does not seem to affect top end speed at all. I've tried OPS and Paged programming without result. Throttle settings below 1 on the Zephyr produce an immediate and to me excessive speed. Does anyone have recommended CV settings to make this more of a slow speed workhorse and less of a race horse? Thanks, TVRR

I was able to program the new 2-6-6-2 easily to match my older proto 2-6-6-2, gotta love that voice response when changing Cv's!

Have you tried setting it up with JMRI where you can play with the sliders?

CV5 is normally the V-Max, not V-Start, which I think is what you should be manipulating. V-Max is for reducing the top end speed at the maximum speed step on your throttle. V-Start, in CV2, is where you tweak the voltage provided to the motor at speed step "1".

Also, some decoders don't take CV changes well. MRC decoders come to mind. You may have to put the engine on a small section of track by itself...an isolated one. Then use Ops Mode programming. Ops Mode uses full track power and should programme all decoders.

JMRI ? Haven't a clue. Can you explain this a bit?

Actually I would like to decrease both maximum speed as well as starting speed. The CV values I have tried for each don't seem to do a thing. Since changing CV 1 was easy enough I know it will accept some changes- evidently I am using the wrong values. 0~32 seems to be the range, correct?
