Here is a pic of my first unit for the future garden railway we plan to build in our back yard. We have a small loop in the front garden with a German theme and it will remain that way, curves to tight for anything more than the little Stainz engine. She is modeled after one of the local shortlines diesels as it was back in the early 90's She is an Ex MKT GP7u, partialy converted to passenger service, but then retired and sold to the shortline. Shawmut car shops did the chop nosing and custom paint job. I added the working clear strobe. I need to find a smaller lense for the light, but this works for now. Strobe is a Scaletronics LED circuit. Current lense is the factory one from the USA Trains SD40. I have a few more minor details to add, need a small 3rd trumpet for the long hood horn and I need to cut and turn the small trumpet on the cab horn so that all of them face forward. Over the next couple of years I will have Shawmut do the rest of the lines engines, 1750, an ex CNW GP7u low nose with amber strobe, non dynamic and standard GP7 fuel tank/air tank set up, 1201 and 1202 are both SW1200s with roller bearing trucks, dual amber double flash strobes on each side of the cab roof. Shawmut has an idea how to change the friction bearing trucks over to a roller bearing cab as far as cosmetics are concened. Enjoy the pics. In the real pic of the 1751, the trailing unit is one of the Ex BN GP10's they got in the mid 90's Mike
Oooooo That is really awesome~ Detailed down to the T. Even the paint is dead on~ I can't wait to see it with the rest of it's detail work done.
I have seen Shawmut Train Shops work and he is very good. Shawmut has done alot of custom work and for a very good reason, because he is very good at it. He is always at the East Coast Large Scale Train show every year and has a little display with a photo album of all the work he has done. His main buisness is G scale related custom work. Anyone who wishes to visit Shawmut's train web site can do so here >>> www.shawmutcarshops.com/
I'm sure it is the first time I have seen it modeled in any scale. It's a massive undertaking, IMHO. Can you estimate how many total hours it took to make the model? Thanks.
I wish still wish I was that good~ although painting a large white horizontal stripe w/o messing up the model's paint is tricky~ I have actually had the idea to buy a GP7 High Nose and repaint it for Elgin Joliet and Eastern just as a massive test. Although, if I can scrounge up the money, I'd like to have Shawmut do the work for me. That paint job is very very nice!
Very impressive that's for sure. I've tackled a custom engines and came away with the vow never to do it again. The front windows would be the killer in this engine. It's very much worth the price of having a real expert finish it for you if you really want a special unit for a special railway. I have a friend who models NAR in HO and he will be doing the same in G scale. He wants a GMD1 so this is a job for Shawmut. Dave
