There has been a fair amount of discussion on Atlas first generation freight cars. Well how about some pictures of you old first generation power. Especially if you still run it! Dont be embarressed to to admit your fondness for those old dinosaurs. :tb-wink:
I still have four of these old C-Liners in running condition. I run them around the layout occasionally for "good ole times sake"! This was the first N scale loco I bought back in the late 60's. I also had several steamers still running but, I sold them, all but an 0-4-0, a few months ago.
I still have some old Atlas steamers. I always thought they were a blessing to N scale. How about the old Bachmann 0-4-0?
I don't frequent the Atlas forum. Um, first gen diesel or steam? Or do you mean first gen Atlas made?
Nice to see some other folks saved these! I have a few (in various states of repair) and would love a NH one. Question: How can we "re-motor" these for use today? Anyone done this? I have a need to repaint mine for NYC... Just would like them to run nicely. Not using DCC, so just ideas on can motors would be fine. thanks!
This may be 2nd gen stuff: Con Cor Daylight with one powered PA1 - the rest dummy units. It still runs but squeeks so is a "box queen" until I get the gumption to clean it. The MRC 2 8 8 2 I traded to someone on TB who needed a part. I kept the shell and will use it as a modern steam loco using a diesel chassis. Atlas 89' tank car: The Orange tank car I am fairly certain is first gen.
Arnold's venerable S2 (and the only Alco S swicher still produced...go figure) The Trix 0-6-0 (on the left).... takes a lickin and keeps on tickin........... They can still out run some newer and more expensive stuff !!!!!!!!!
The Citgo whale belly and SP crummy are A1G. Both of which I would love to have! The depressed center flat may also be first gen.
From a publicity photo supplied by the offices of the Grey and Grandure. Here is a contingent of the GN Rolling stock. Con Cor - FA1 ABBA - with 1 powered and 3 dummies. These run but sqeek also. I - think - the Cow and Calf is also CC. The SD45s are new Bman but the tender between them is from a CC U50 - the loco was stolen from me. < insert inapropriate language >. The two locos to the right of the cow and calf are new Atlas. Does CC count as first gen? I have two U50s repainted by Hemi in GN.
Wish now I hadn't got rid of my Minitrix FM switcher.........but somewhere in my collection I do have a Bachmann F-unit. The Yugo of my diesel fleet.
Sorry if I am miss posting 2nd gen:' Painful memory: Unwrapping this long lost treasure and finding it in unusuable condition. To be fair it had been packed up and subjected to heat and cold for over 20 years. F Units are Minitrix. The SD45 is an Atlas which I tried to paini with silver trim and such. Better look at the CC Daylight PA1 Bachman Usomething:
Atlas (Rivarossi) C-Liners from 10/1967 & 11/1967. Atlas (Rivarossi) Streamliners from 2/1968 through 2/1969. I have "modern" motive power to replace the C-Liners, since the PRR didn't have the 4-6 wheel arrangement C-Liners, just the 4-4.
