He has a hobby shop in the Chicago area (or did the last time I saw him) and sells HO and N at the monthly DuPage County train show. (I bought a couple Intermountain CB&Q FT sets from him there.) He also promotes a pretty good railroadiana show in the western Chicago burbs. I've found him to be a good guy when I've talked with him.
Cool item, but the pricing is a bit difficult to figure out. is it $500 like in the title or $1000 in the Buy It Now? You have to read a bit to figure it out. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ERIE-RR-Sta...777559?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item3ccb4bc257
Doesn't sound like it's been built yet, you have to trust that his model is going to look like the real one in the photos.
I don't read anywhere what the model is made out of, gold perhaps? And what about this line? "Dimensions L: 72" x W: 12" at base with deck to accomodte two (2) tracks in N gauge/ 1:177 scale. " 1:177 scale, how did he arrive at that, and I know bridges taper outwards towards the bottom but 12" seems rather wide for a double track bridge in N scale.
I've seen that listed now for months. It's like he wants to model it for himself but wants someone else to pay him to make it.
Some of the prices on other items are fantasy land. I used to stop in his shop. the prices in the shop were always good.
Hmmm.......will that run on Code 55 track? Then again, maybe you could use that to look for Atlas Code 55 track.
It's a brass big boy, but with the Athearn out, I wouldn't think that they would pull this kind of a price...and $109 shipping?!! Is he going to deliver it personally to your door? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sakatsu-Bra...200489?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item46119cd0e9
Minitrix 0-6-0 I think I've listed this one before. $15 price tag is clearly seen on the box but he wants $345...already had 17 offers (but it's still here). http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINITRIX-ST...914351?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item35b81905ef
I wonder if this is because of the insurance cost for this valuable an item. I remember when I worked for a TV station and we had to ship an expensive camera off for repairs. The air freight charge was based mostly on weight, plus so much per $1000 value for insurance. The boss asked us to check how much we could save if we shipped by ground freight. Ground freight was a LOT less based on weight, but insurance, which was based on $100 units of value, made the ground shipping charge WAY more costly. Wonder if this is the case here?
"N Scale Lot"...Worst pictures ever. Two engines and a crane, something really blurry, more blurry freight cars, blurry micro machines, blurry power packs (according to the description one actually works), and a baggie of...something: Only $300! http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Lot-/130948710509?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item1e7d26c06d

These are extremely rare and hardly ever come up for sale (especially the ones in the wooden cases, which were only sold in Japan). Athearn's Big Boy isn't really relevant since this is more of a collector's item thing than a "buying it to run it" thing (from what I'm told, they don't run all that well anyway). I kinda doubt he's going to get $2700 for it, though (basically double the original list price). But if he did, $109 wouldn't be out of line to cover the insurance. -Mark
Think I've had this one here before too: 'Custom' painted??? Looks like BAD weathering to 4 old Atlas cars and 5 untouched Atlas cars...and for only $75: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-9-BO...034148?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2a2efe25a4
