SleeperN06. I'm too tire to go through your entire thread, but I was able to find 2" extruded foam (The blue Stuff) at http://www.foamsalesandmarketing.com/home.html

I would give them a call, but when I was there, the whole wherehouse was full of them.

Sorry if this is a duplicate recommendation. I paid 50 bucks for a 36x80.

Perhaps everybody should step back and review WHY we use Blue or Pink and not White, Yellow, or Tan.

This has been well explained to me and it further explains why I tossed my white extruded these last few weeks.

The white polyextruded beadboard works well but incidentally enough it is Flammable.

The Yellow and Tan stuff might appear to be similar but everything changes when you hit it with the wirecutter. The fumes from these materials are simply toxic as in poisonous as in you don't want ot be cutting this!

The Blue and Pink foams are the ahppy medium; they have fire retardance built in and further, the fumes from these materials isn't as toxic as the fumes from the yellow or tan - granted, I would still cut in a well ventallated place!!

I called around today and most places don’t have it in stock, but can order it. It’s a lot more expensive that I originally thought and shipping is not cheap. Wicksaircraft.com can only ship it to me in 2x2 squares because of the shipping charges.
Foam Sales and Marketing in Burbank is the one place that does have it in stock. They asked me “what density I wanted” and I did not have a clue. It comes in 25, 30, 40, and I can’t remember what else. A 2x8’ piece of 2”-40 density is over $40 and 1” only comes in densities up to 25.
What the heck density do I want?

More density means greater "R" value. However, you are not insulating.

I happen to have a stack of pieces in both 3/4 and 1" and it is all Foamular 250 which is the 25 psi density on Owens Corning's website. This density carves very nice.

Can anybody repost the link to the "flame" test of the different foams. I thought the foil covered yellow helped protect the underside where most of our wiring and fire sources are. I use the yellow as a base and a mix of just about every foam made on top depending on what I want it to look like. even the white bead stuff has a place as hill & fill material (cheap) cover it with paint mixed with the bead cuttings and a rough texture some ground cover, stick in some trees and bushes.

I’m a little curious about the fire rating myself, because they have so many restrictions in California on fire and safety stuff. Almost everything’s been outlawed.

Hey, if they thought they could prevent 100% of all model railroader ER visits by outlawing the hobby, they'd probably feel just like they would if they hadcured cancer or saved the whales or something like that...

Great, glad you found some. Price doesn't look bad either, considering what's been posted on this thread.

I didn't read every post in the thread, but what about going to Lowes or Home Depot and asking them to order it for you? They might be able to get in-store pickup for you. I remember wanting a specific Weber Gas grill from Home Depot and they didn't have it in stock. They special ordered it for me no problem... and since it was an in-store pickup I didn't have to pay shipping.

I've been out of state for a while, but last week I was in Pittsburgh, PA and it was all over the place. While driving to Home Depot I saw it stacked up in the parking lot of 84Lumber, passed flatbed trucks carrying the stuff on the highway, and finally a ton of it at Home Depot.
I got the item numbers from the guys at Home Depot they said to give the numbers to any store in CA and they will order it.
I also compared the fire rating of the pink foam with the yellow foil foam and I did not see much difference. They both have warnings on them.
When I get back to CA, I will take a run to Burbank to buy some foam:mbiggrin:.
