You've got to admit it's good advertising though. I'm sitting on the edge of my seat with anticipation and I don't even want the darned things.
Whats a GEVO and why is everybody excited by it? Is it GM's new enviromentally friendly car or something? Eric
It is a General Electric Evolution series locomotive. You can read about it here: GE Transportation - North America : Products : Locomotive Products : Evolution Series Locomotive It is pretty much the latest and greatest from GE, kind of like the SD70ACe is for EMD.
Am I the only Australian imagining the bloke from the Yellow Pages goggo mobile commercial selling GEVO's? GEVO, G.E.V.O.:tb-biggrin:
it's NOT : - kato - atlas - athearn - pwrs/narc - concor - bachmann - trix - model power - life like - true line trains - rapido - microtrains - intermountain - märklin - walthers - aristocraft - usa trains - accucraft - mth - roco - lgb it is ...... you'll know soon !
btw, i let the manufacturer know that i will (pre-) order 10 or more IF there are unnumbered units available. i'm tired of renumbering engines after the 70+ ac4400 i've done.
Some of the manufacturers on that list do not do N scale at all, so this could be an established manufacurer in HO, say, who finally has seen the N scale writing on the wall. Bowser/Stewart isn't on the list. There are others, but I'm not knowedgable of HO and other scales.
ExactRail is the only one not on the list that makes any sense at all. Of course another one missing is Trainman...
Whoever it is, I wish them luck in their first N scale loco venture. I believe that most of us are so pre-disposed to buy only Atlas and Kato that it would have to be really, really good, or on one of their mechanisms, for us to take a chance on a large pre-order. That is especially true since many "first offerings" (i.e., Athearn FP59 and IM SD40-2T) historically have had some problems. Since confidence is such a huge factor when buying one of our most expensive MRR products, if its not one of the bigs, it could sink the whole operation.
If today is announcement day (and do we really know that's correct?) then Dapol can perhaps be eliminated. It's afternoon in the UK now, and there's not a word on the Dapol website.
If the NSC is the forum - sure - but a lot of the "suspects" are not even exhibitors there. The magazine seems to have been timed for the NSC though - and the style of the ad is a lot like what we see people do in mags released at tradeshows. Also - could there be MORE than ONE GEVO announcement?????
Have we ruled out brass? The more I think about it the more I think its ExactRail. Looking back at the ExactRail ad campaign to kick off their company, which was similarly intriguing, their slogan of "the next generation of model railroading", and their website, which promises exciting new products in the months ahead, I would say they are as good a guess as anyone.
I would say this..outside of Kato or Atlas or Athearn, I would be sceptical of it being a decent model, and would subject it to far more scrutiny than normal...if it is intermountain, odds are I will not touch it....even though I have read on here in the past that there are guys on here who swear by intermountain, it's those brass contacts on the sides of the trucks that I can not get past...so, whoever you are out there that is going to do this today...I post this challenge, prove me wrong, I welcome it. Unveil a work of art that runs and looks great, and I will buy several of them...and in all fairness, I will keep an open mind about this...
neither dapol nor brass. i just love to have some fun with you guys..... ...honestly, i know it but i really can't tell you. there's a good chance you won't be disappointed.
Bluford Shops is one that I don't think has been mentioned yet and is not on the list, could they be branching out into locomotives? Amongst all those European manufacturers on the list I wouldn't even have considered anyway, like LGB and Marklin, I don't see Rivarossi/Hornby, and even though it was mentioned earlier in jest, neither is Mehano. While we're looking at outside chances, what about one of the other Japanese manufacturers like Tomix breaking into the US market, highly unlikely though I admit.
So let me get this right - If its not BETTER than an Atlas or Kato you wont consider buying it? What if its of the same quality as the Atlas or Katos? I predict this will happen - the model will be a good one but there will be something a little different about it and the manufacture will be roasted over the coals because of something inconsequential. Eric
I think Westfalen has it. Bluford has discovered something other than 86' auto parts box cars Shouldn't that be G.E.V.V.O. cracked me up.
