I was wondering what wire sizes people are using for feeders and dcc bus wires in z scale. And does anyone know a reputable online source for bulk wire. Thanks

Yoshi, I dont know what gauge it is, but I use Brawa wires. I like to use them because they are color wires and are flexible. I am no electronic expert, but I haven't had any problems with them.

Jeff likes to use 24AWG pvc insulated solid wire.
I like to use 18AWG solid copper un-insulated wire because it is stiff, and also holds the rails in place. (only important when other people in a hurry are unhooking your modules)

LIke Rob says, I use 24 or 26 solid up under the rails bottom or rail joiners. Bend the end into an L, an ancient technique. Secure the wire under the layout nearby the feeder holes to prevent movment of the solid wire under the rails. These solid wires go to distribution blocks. You could also use stranded wire to the rail, it's just messier under the rail. You can also solder to the sides of the rail. The power supply Current (the critical term) is soooo low in Z scale that any wire size is good. For a small layout, you could even use #30, common in DCC decoders or computer cables.

For modules, securing the ends of the rails is important. Rob Ray uses large solid #14 bent to an L, soldered to the sides of the rail. Some use brass screws, #2 size, under the rail so they can handle repeated show connections.

I'm currently (pun?) using Cat 3 Telco or Cat 5 network cable; it's 24 gauge & readily available in most hardware stores. I'm still a newbie at this...time will tell if I chose wisely.
