Does any one know if or when *pretty please* release the reefers that are the same that the Union Pacific/CSX is using on the salad shooter (salad bowl express). I know they are longer than the 57' mechanical reefer and it has the platforms on the end. Is there a kit? I really would like to get at least.... 50 or so to make a shooter and with the new GEVO's coming out, it would be a perfect compliment to them.

I've seen pictures of converted Walther's cars. I haven't tried it myself, but I have several donors waiting..

They would also work with the Tropicana Juice Train that runs on CSX and FEC.

This is probably the most needed modern car - next to spines (which Deluxe is taking care of). It'd be real nice if maybe BLMA or Bluford would tackle this one. They'd sell a ton!

I made one out of a Walthers car. Not an easy enough job to make me want to do them wholesale but I do have 3 more put away for conversion some day.

I would love to see these in N scale. I nominate BLMA!

Got any "in process" shots or some hints for those that haven't jumped in yet? I need a few for the LAJ...

    Much needed car...

Nice work on the car, sillystringtheory!

I too would like to see a set of these! I had designed an N-Scale Selkirk branch (Hoffmans to Unionville) that would have also had the Railex facility in So. Schenectady. Because of the lack of proper cars, however, I turned my design sights elsewhere. :(

Even though I've moved to another prototype, the cars would still be neat to have.

BTW, below are a couple of shots taken at Railex earlier this year. Railex has since added an additional track between the ones shown in the pics and their building, as well as some adjustments to the Papa John's spur in the background of the first image (behind the building and to the left).

sillystringtheory- what a beautiful job. I would love to have a half dozen of those to add to my BNSF H-NTWSUP priority manifest... paging BLMA...

Looking at those photos, it's sad to note that every one of those cars have been "tagged". The rail scene is looking pretty ugly as of late.:tb-sad:

I like the car! I would do a simple kit but to be honest, to completely kitbash 50 some cars and have them all look the same... well these hands are not that steady lol. I think that is the last car we need that is "modern". With all the GEVO's coming out you think Matt over at FVM might be listening in on this and release a few of those cars with those new GEVO's.... Does he troll here at all?

Having done a little research on these cars, I can tell you that each road has different car lengths. The UP cars are shorter than the BNSF cars. I think the Tropicana cars are in between. And BNSF has two different versions (roofs and end platforms). So it would be a big stretch for someone to tool these in plastic.

The Trinity web site shows 2 sizes of these in current production: 64' IL and 72'3" IL. I think BNSF has the larger size and ARMN and Tropicana have the smaller size. There are probably earlier variants around that may have different sizes, but I'd be happy with one or both of these. Please. :)
