If you were painting a resin cast model of this loco, what order would you do the colors? OPR 5100 (Ex SSTX) OPR 5100 I have decals for all the orange stuff. I was thinking about it this way: gray primer on the inside, followed by light spray of silver on the inside gray primer on the outside paint the white bits white spray black, masking off the white parts of the handrails and such mask and spray the silver ends
Black to lighter colors. Light colors cover black extremely well with little to no mask edge due to the fact it takes less paint. Paint the whole thing black and mask off for the other colors. Jack
I would paint the silver first then the black. All of the orange lettering and stripes are available in decals. As a general rule, most modelers paint light colors first followed by the darker colors.
I have heard that Silver is hard to mask over for painting other colors. That was why I was unsure whether I should do silver and then black or black and then silver. I have the orange decals for all the striping and lettering. Thanks!
I just painted 6 NJ Transit GP-40's. The silver was painted first before the black. I had no problem masking the silver. I use a soft low tack drafting tape to mask the loco's off. Only had one unit where some of the silver came off on the tape but it wasn't noticeable on the shell. JP
JP, Thanks for the advice. I think I will hit the loco with silver first and then mask for the black knowing that it CAN be done. I have some of the really nice Tamiya tape as well as some of the higher end blue masking tape. Adam
