I was just wondering if any manufacture makes prototypical automatic switch machines and switch heaters. I am detailing a portion of the layout and need some. Thanks
Tony, I know someone makes the switch(Pneumatic) motors in HO, but haven't seen 'em in N...perhaps you could make up a prototype and resin cast them, if you need a bunch. The "heaters" you want (gas-fired?) should be real easy to make - little more than a strip of styrene with appropriate contour stuck to the outside of the rail. The more modern resistance electric heaters don't have any large visible components - just wires. Good luck on the project. Bob C.
Railway Express Minatures makes a "dual control" switch machine. Not sure if thats what you are looking for.
Langley Miniature Models in England makes a package of 6 Dummy Point Motors, item A41 in N scale. Langley Miniature Models Accessories A35 - A65 I am not that well versed in the real thing to know if these English motors resemble US motors. I got some from Neal's N-Gauging Trains about 15 years ago, but I have heard rumors that he has not survived the recession. I would think that someone would make switch heaters, but I am not aware of any.
Railway Express Miniatures Mainline Detail Set(REM2151) appears from ad pics, to contain 2 power switch units in the set, along with some other usable (?) items in "N". Check your LHS or fave e-tailer, around $7+ a set. Also, for modeling info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railroad_switch ...Bob C.
