I saw some great ideas for taking trains to shows, but what do you guys/gals do for home layouts that have trains that never travel to show?

This is one of the things I have created. I made three bookcases mounted on some 30" full extension sldes.

Pure genius!!! When we remodeled our kitchen, I built something like this for spices and other small goods, but it never occurred to me to do something like it for layout storage.

Yes very nice idea for your storage; I keep mine in the plastic rollwaways but you can't see what is in each draw like you can there.

    Way to go Garth!!
I built an entertainment center years ago that had a tall narrow drawer similar to yours to hold VHS tapes. Never thought to adapt it to hold trains. Since my display cases are basicly full now I'm going to need more storage soon. Might look into constructing a few of these for my room. I like the labels on the shelves as well. Helps to id whatalls there. Cool design!!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. The layout above is 32 1/2" deep. The unit below is 30 1/2" deep. It allows me the full depth of the layout for storage. I took everything out one day to straighten things up and can not believe how much stuff is in there. The corners are dovetailed for strength and the shelves are dadoed to the ends.

I may be building another one in the future so I can get rid of some of the old kitchen cabinets that I refinished for the room.
