    Hi

I have an Atlas SD-60M that I bought used that has the following problem : on straight track it operates as new but on tight curves (15" radius or less) it is unable to maintain constant speed... it slows down... very unrealistically. Any help??? I know someone here had the same problem...!

If I can't fix the problem I will try to get a new mechanism from the most recent run with the slow speed motor.

    Thanks

I had the same problem, it turned out to be a
faulty truck. Atlas replaced it at no charge.

It is in the trucks but more specifically it is a result of the gears not being correctly lined-up. If you want to save a buck or two and can't order from them. It is not hard to fix just takes some adjusting. The gears in the trucks are rubbing on the plastic truck frame due to the pressure applied by the rails on turns, especially tight radius turns.

Kind of a pain but I guess it could be worse. And more costly.

    good luck!

Yeah my SD60M did that too and I fiddled with the wheel gauge, gearframes, and removed the two inner most worm gear bearing blocks. It's not as bad now, and the problem pretty much went away after a couple hours run time.

I removed the inner (closest to the engine) bearing blocks... but now the loco makes a metal clinking noise while running. The engine doesn't stop anymore on curves though.,...

I've fixed a couple by simply swapping the truck positions (front to back, back to front).
