I just got mine, and I am amazed that it runs so well. (of course, it helps that Chuck at Feather River Trains did his own personal quality test run check of every IM Cab Forward that he sent out - you are great, Chuck). There are still little niggly things that will have to be figured out. My rear headlight on the tender doesn't work when the loco runs in reverse. Will have to open up the tender and/or check wipers and see if can de-bug. Also, the idler truck under the platform, has to be tuned... tendency to derail when running in reverse and enters diverging route on turnout.... But all are easily fixable I hope... and given the astounding looks and smooth running of this loco ... if that is the extent of my problems, I'm thrilled at the value for the money! Keep the reports, both good and bad, coming. It's good to know what is going on out there.
Ditto that except I can't run mine at the moment because after three years of having my trains on the dining table, I finally had to tear down the track. I have my new bench work completed upstairs except for the top and laying the track work. Been watching all the reports and most are favorable. It is a beautiful model and I am glad that I bought it.
I should have mine from Chuck any day now, and I am really excited about it! My roster of SP steam continues to grow, and the more I get....the more I like it! LOL Not bad coming from a Santa Fe modeler.
Hi John Sing, When I removed my tender shell the rear led was not attached to the tender. It is held on by double sided tape, but was not stuck to the rear panel. It worked, just did not show. This is an amazing release by a Company that I, quite frankly, had given up on. jrwirt - you are a class act dude.
I recieved mine the other day from Chuck and it looks and runs great. No problems what so ever. Runs smooth but had a little gear noise which i expect to quiet down after some break in time. Don't forget to lube the side rods per the instructions. IM deserves allot of kudos for the effort they put into this locomotive. The almost 2 year wait was well worth it. Dave
With Athearn now saying they have no plans for an FEF-3 or for that matter any new N scale steam perhaps we should lobby IM to do more now they have shown they can do a good job if they put the effort into it.
Looks like Feather River is out of stock already. Mine is great, not as quiet as I would like it to be, but after a few hours of run time, I think it will be fine. I'm thinking about selling my Key AC-7 to buy another IM AC-12.
I'm finding it hard to resist the temptation to pick up another one of these too! It's such a gorgeous model. Nonetheless, I must resist if I want that FVM Hiawatha.
Carl, thanks for the suggestion, I will go look and see if that is my situation as well. . I love the internet and our ability to share info on it.
My plight exactly! I don't usually buy many non-SP trains but couldn't resist the Hiawatha. Had my AC12 for over a week now. Incredible model! No problems in either direction. Way to go IMR! Now, give us some more PFE 40' reefers so we can make long trains!
Came home from work, and my AC-12 was here! Will be running it in a bit after I shower, but I had to write and give my first thoughts. This is one of the most detailed, if not thee best detail steam engine right out of the box I have ever seen! The piping is incredible. The cab interior....superb! IM did a fantastic job on these. N Scalers could not ask for a better model, and it show just what can be done in this great scale. I am so impressed with this model. The more I look at it, the more I find on it. IM did hit a home run with this one.....and it was a line shot out of the Park!!!!
I think we need to see this one in one of the famous Pinole videos for the March Modeling Video Contest!!
OK, I finally got out to run her after a good track cleaning, and WOW!!! I am very impressed with this engine right out of the box. The lighting effects are awesome. I found one complant, if you want to call it that. One of the stars on one of the drivers is not completely centered so it makes a funny pattern when the wheel goes around. No biggy.....weathering will hide that without a problem! Thanks IM.....2yrs wait......WELL WORTH IT!!!!!
Have faith, brother. I'm sure some were bought just to put on evil-bay. Keep watch and you'll be able to pay "an arm and a leg" for one. Hopefully IM will make a second run.
