I think that in light of our 10 anniversary that we deserve a little something to celebrate the occasion with. A Club Car! Now I know not everyone would want one, agree on what it should look like or even think we need one. But, it's not too late to think about it. The attached is only an example and no, I don't want to be a designer (would you want this rolling around your layout?). I don't know how many members the board has but if Garden Societies, Conventions and Hobby Shops can have special runs why shouldn't we? I think a G scale car would be a good one-size-fits-all approach. Any comments? Any ideas? Happy Railroading! GovB
"I think a G scale car would be a good one-size-fits-all approach. Any comments? Any ideas?" I'll buy a G scale car if you buy all my N scale stuff!! to many scales not enough $$$
I know this subject has come up to the Senoir staff here on Train Board about having a official rail car for each scale here, Z, N, HO, G, ect. They just came up with the new logo, so they are still trying to catch thier breathes. I came up with the idea of having official Train Board shirts and had one made up as a sample which I will put a picture in the next post. I think the graphics look good, but think the car should be in white with a bule roof perhaps, I think that would look sharp. I'll make sure I'll let the senior staff know that the G scale section would like to see a special run car. I could probably get this done with Train Boards permissionfor around $100 per car from Shawmut Car Shops. I couldn't think of anyone better for such a G scale project like this.
New Train Board Shirts arrive With permission from the Train Board senior staff Charlie, I actually had a experimental Train Board shirt made up with the new logo. There are many templates to pick from with the T shirt place and you can have a choice of words or no words printed with the logo. The place I found has no minimum requirements. Colors are white, ash and black with sizes from Small to XX Large. The T shirts are made from 99% pre shrunk cotton made by a company called Anvil. I posted photos below. Also there seems to be more interest from the senior staff in a more proffesional polo type shirt with a embroidered emblem, I have found a place that offers many colors and designs and just recieved permission to go foward to have a experimental shirt made from there to see how it comes out.
I was thinking of doing the same thing with a shirt only wearing my BN and GR Logo on the sleep with my Forum ID on the sleeve as well. As for the Club car, I think that would be a great idea too. I wonder, though, billboard style reefer, steel 40' boxcar or both?
The only problem with "g" scale is there are so many different scales that run in that group, 1:20.3 1:22.5 1:24 1:29 1:32. I myself wouldn't buy one in "g" scale because I run F (1.20.3) and G scale rolling stock is just too small. just my $.02 Terry
paintjockey, welcome to Train Board and we respect everyones opinion here. I also have respect for Fn3 scale even though I run 1:29 scale ratio. But in any instance you are right, there is so many different scale ratios what scale ratio would everyone agree on? I would love to see more Fn3 people coming aboard here, epsecially when posting photos.
I think that a club car is a cool idea, but with so many scales out there. Maybe we could look at a sheet of decals and a set of color rules. These would be cheaper and easer to pass out ?
When I saw the title Club Car, I envisioned a real club car, as in past passenger trains, you know, where the bar was and you could sip a drink and have a cigar. Anyone want to do a REAL club car? :tb-biggrin:
Interesting concept, but you could never inforce color scheme rules. Another idea I was think to drop the 10th anniversary idea and make regular run club cars. Than make up a USA Trains one year, a Aristocraft another year, Accucraft AMS another. Didn't figure out the LGB version yet as that company is having it's ups and downs. This would be one sure fire shot that everyone would be happy or close to it.
back to Decals Instead of enforcing color rules for decals, you could make the car a "repaint" or a "reweigh" car. Then you could have black lettering on white background (or the opposite) and it would work on any car color. Then the only issue would be scale.
