The first Sam Houston Zephyr to run between Dallas and Houston was one of the original Twin Zephyr articulated train sets that was reassigned to run on the Burlington-Rock Island joint line in Texas. It was destroyed by fire in December of 1944. It was replaced by the Silver Bullet E5 pulling a Budd built train consisting of a baggage car, three coaches and a lounge observation. This first photo is of the original train set.

Since my primary modeling era is circa 1951 I built up the replacement train using Kato Budd cars and a Life Like E6 that was kitbashed to resemble an E5. Coincidentally, all but one of the Kato cars are are exactly correct to model this train. Even the funky observation car. I just had to remove some lettering and rename them. One of the coaches had to have the interior reversed to put the vestibule on the back end. I have since upgraded the chassis on the locomotive with one from a Broadway Limited E7 that has sound.

Very nice trainset, Russell. The bottom pic of the whole train, it's hard to tell model from prototype.

Here's mine: my first "major" scenery project, officially complete last night. This is the Watash Creek Tunnel.

Please pardon the giant upside-down pumpkin. That's the "craft project" tablecloth.

I still have some touch-up and repair work to do. More pics are available on the thread in the N Scale forum, on my blog, and on my Flickr slideshow.

Sorry, I'm just a little excited. First major project, and I'm rather pleased, if I do say so myself! :tb-biggrin:

Very nice train stuff, Gentlemen...model or otherwise! I am certain our buddy Watash is feeling great, and all the more pleased with your modelling effort, TwinDad. It turned out very nicely indeed.

For my own effort this week, a Pennsy Q2 is leaving servicing at the roundhouse.

I like the camping scene. Interesting that if you delete a photo off Photobucket it somehow deletes here as well??? Let's try this one from the old Southern Division. CCRR/Socalz44

    Nice work!

Grampy, love the detail in your shot of the water trickling out of the pipe.

    Jim - nice trestle!

No shots from me this week. All layout progress on hold as I deal with some recent bad news. I'll soon be joining the ranks of the unemployed as I got laid-off at my company. :tb-frown:

On the positive side, I'll probably soon have more time to work on my layout.

Bruce, Bummer news. Keep your chin up and spend some quality time on your layout. Cheers, Jim CCRR/Socalz44

I'll get some severance which will give me some time to get out looking for a new job. I've read reports that the economy is starting to turn in our area, so I'm hopeful that I'll be able to find something soon.

More work with Silver Creek, color to the rocks !

Only a few drops of color into a cup of water, and painting the plaster.

And I've added a desk for car cards & waybills to Fiddletown:

Forgive me for posting twice... couldn't resist. Too nice a pic, too many elements pulled together in one shot.

    Hiya.

I needed some station platform lights but all that I've seen were either ridiculously out of scale or ridiculously expensive so....

    A few pieces of telescope-tubing (smallest 1.0mm), a lampshade from a MP streetlight, a micro-LED (2.0x1.2mm)

    resulted in this:

Total cost: about 25 cents! Regards,

Tomkat, I really like that last shot of the 44 tonner and the Katy boxcar. (By the way, if you get a chance, try Nik Silver Efex Pro for grayscale conversion--it's excellent.)
