Well as mentioned before my daughter and I re-started the "Unreliable and Recycled RR" from scratch last weekend. We went out and bought blue foam for the base, glue, and started by gluing it down on a 24" by 36" base, recycled of course. The base is a plywood palette cut down to size resting on a re-purposed desk.

Yesterday we started gluing down the cork roadbed and some of the track.

    Another shot of the curve.

This will be the first level. We have decided that there will be 2 levels independent of each other allowing for dual train operation. Top level will have switching functions, and the bottom level will just be a scenic route so that Kayla can run her train.

I must say that it is fun to have a "helper" who is excited to see the progress hehe.

    Next Progress report next Monday!

    Cheers!
    Adam and of course Kayla.

    A little progress update

Did a little progress. Some of the track and cork is down, wiring has been tested, works fine.

Here are a few shots. Please excuse the picture quality, cell phone :tb-wacky:

First curve laid down. No that is not my regular power pack, just one to test wiring lol.

Well this weekend finished the lower level cork and track laying. Wiring has been set up, the Railpower power pack does a smashing job running a short freight around the oval. I did hasve to add in a second set of leads at the rear because my locomotive slowed there. My sectional track is well aligned, and looks great! The layout is starting to look more like a layout hehe.

Kayla was thrilled to be able to run "her train". No money in the world could replace the smile on her face as she ran her train around the loop.

I will post pictures tomorrow hopefully of all the action plus the progress made!

Next weekend will be spent planning and filling in for the second level, MY level. :tb-biggrin:

    Have a great week all!

    Cheers
    Adam and Kayla

Pretty cool. How old is Kayla, if I may ask?

Are the two levels going to be completely separate decks, like a two-deck layout, or will the second level be simply a higher elevation area on the same base board?

Oh, and I love the name of your railroad!

Hey Twindad sorry hadn't seen that reply! I do apologise for the delay. Kayla is 8 years old, and has always had an interest in trains. Her first train set if you can call it that was a Lego Thomas Duplo Set that she still has and still plays with. I gave her yesterday a GE Dash 8 with 3 Micro-Trains equipped freight cars, boy was she thrilled!

The Layout was supposed to be two independant decks on the same base, with the upper having switching operations using 4-axle diesels, but that sorta went out the window yesterday as I realised that I don't have enough room to maneuver in the space that is left over, so Kayla now has her own layout and is calling the shots.

I have to add a track to park her train, in her words, and this evenig we will start the terrain.

More pics on the way Joe, just uploaded a few lol.
