What works? I tried 91% alcohol to remove white lettering from some Bachmann tenders but it didn't even pahase it. So what works?
Don't know if it works on all of them, but I just took the lettering etc. off of two of the Spectrum DCC readys in "WM". I used "Simple Green" cleaner. Didn't take long. It did not even touch the red paint on the deck though...
I have found Simple Green in the web, but there are different versions like "mint", "lemon" or even "aircraft cleaner". Are these different?? Sorry if the question sounds strange, but I am in Germany and have to get it here, sometimes even things that are standard products in the U.S. are not obtainable in Europe, or they are completely different. Talk about Tenax, no way to get a bottle here due to air cargo restrictions.
A trick my father used was a small amount of nail polish remover. If you use to much the paint starts coming off.
Don't feel bad, you can't get Tenax in the US right now either. Not sure what the deal is but nobody has it.
Christoph: The one I use is labelled "concentrated all purpose cleaner". I don't think the mint and lemon matter; other than the odor you/your family prefer-the one we use does not have them though. I've never seen the "aircraft cleaner" that I can remember...
I have used lighter fluid on a Q-tip. It takes some rubbing, and just when I think nothing will happen, the lettering disappears.
SOLVASET. Tonight I decided to try try "Simple Green" on my Bachmann tenders and got nowhere; the lettering paint is a bit too thick. Went back to Solvaset, soaked it for few minutes with a Q tip and rubbed it off with a toothpick: Voila', worked like a charm, with no damage to the underlying paint whatsoever. It's a good thing too, because I bought a bunch of Bachmann tenders for "projects"... Regards, Otto
I used solvaset and rubbed lightly with a soft pencil eraser to remove lettering and numbers from an HO Bachmann 2-8-0. It didn't effect the base paint on the loco.
