EMD Locomotives ALL THE WAY baby. There isn't one diesel locomotive I like in any other manufcaturer, sorry, no Alcos, Baldwins, GE's for me.............nope ok now that we have establish that I only like EMD diesel locomotives, it's hard to pick my favorites, I like just about all of them. #1 the GP-9: Why, because it was the toughest locomotive on the railroad which is why they still survive today and probably will for another 20 years. #2 the SD-9: I like the looks of the behemouth 12 wheel drive with the high hood and is a great tractive effort loco for mining and coal operations. Too bad many railroads never kept them or realized the SD-9 loco full potential. Rio Grande used them in the coal mines. #3 the SD40-2 & SD40-2T: The most famous loco with the best track record and huge success story for many railroads including Rio Grande. The Rio Grande RR still had most of it's SD40-2T fleet when Union Pacific bought them out and alot of those were put into service in 1977. #4 the SD-70MAC & the SD70-ACe, both were revolutionary locomotives that EMD came out with for modern day operations. #5 the F-3: there were many versions of this loco, first the FT which was the one that killed off the steamers, the F3, F7, F9, for freight service, then the E8, E9 for passenger service. Out of them all however, the F-3 was my favorite although the F-9 was the better F model locomotive that EMD made. #6 lets not forget switchers: The SW1200 is my favorite EMD switcher loco

It`s a tough decision, but Baldwins have been growing on me lately. At the moment, I`d rank them like this: Baldwin Sharks Baldwin VO series FM C-liners and hood units EMD F series Alco RS series Alco Century series (excepting, maybe, the C420 :tb-err Any first generation Geeps with rounded cab roofs... and finally, the GE`s: U-boats, C`s and B`s and finally, maybe the Dash 9-44CWL, but that is the really the only ultra modern loco I actually like, but only the ones with the four-piece windshields :tb-biggrin:.
Alco - RSC-3 EMD - GP-7 F-M - H16-44 Baldwin - Any "baby face" cab, from the "Centipede" on down. GE - U-18B
