I guess it depends on the nature of the "scrap yard" and how "true" to prototype you want it to be. If you want it close to prototype then you need to choose a type of scrap yard and it needs to be era specific. If it can be freelance then you can do any number of things as shown in the thread so far. Stack of roof walks and other parts that have been removed Freight cars / locomotives nearby that are being cut up Rail fans taking pics of said equipment (or trying to um, er, acquire a piece). Wait, maybe they negotiated the deal and are removing it legitimately. Break wheels, chains, signs, panels with logos Piles of who knows what Parts of alien space craft sticking out from under a tarp So, I guess you could make it "picturesque" as you like or as neat and trim as a brand new oil depot.
LMAO.. That's a good one. And the next thought that crossed my mind, mixing a junkyard and a spaceship... anyone remember the old TV series "Salvage 1", with Andy Griffith? Have a crew converting a cement mixer into a space capsule, and cobbling a rocket together with drain pipes and plumbing. Maybe a little help from Red Green with some duct tape... Hmmm... I still have a pile of spare starship parts from some Star Trek models...
