Well over the weekend I began construction on my layout, I ultimately decided on a simple design, to go with what I think I want the most. Since this is my first layout I kind of figured the simpler the better so I dont get stressed out over something not working out right.

So here are some pics of what I've done so far...

Table legs from IKEA, puts the whole layout at desk height so I can just sit at it comfortable, also the four legs cost $20 so I cant complain there

The 2 track main oval cork roadbed is down

Hopefully this week I can make a trip to the hobby store and pick up some Code 55 flex and some turnouts and get that down soon

Excellent start. I love the table legs idea! That is the easiest, quickest idea I've seen.

Do they support the layout well without any wobbling?

It was wobbly until I repositioned the mounting boards closer to the edges of the door and now its rock solid. I love those legs cuz they unscrew from the mounting plates.

Started test fitting some flex track around the curves today and couldn't resist getting a shot of one of my Atlas SD-60's on the track

    Got a little sidetracked

So I got a little sidetracked after browsing the forums last night for a few hours, started a little project when I should be working on the layout but its amazing what a little bit of paint and some OH I HOPE I DONT SCREW IT UP (slightly edited of course) gets you

Didn't go into full blown detailing but its a start,

On the left is the "new" one and on the right is what it started out as. Next up maybe some airhoses and sunshades. or maybe get some track down haha.

and yes I know UP 6028 is missing a plow and the airhorns are busted, dont really wanna talk about that.......

    Started getting track down

Well today I finally got some track down, I will say, this code 55 flex is not so fun to work with but I'm hoping the end result will look sweet. I had to rip out two whole sections cuz I managed to tweak a rail out of the ties and it broke off a bunch of the lil plastic spikes, I guess the only way to learn is thru experience right? haha. Also I got the sections wired up and plugged in, and everything worked! so Im happy.

Pics are a lil meh cuz I used my iphone camera instad of my good digital SLR.

This is probably the last I'm going to get done for a while cuz I have some turnouts on order and they wont get here till next week, and my girlfriend is gonna be here visiting for 3 weeks from the NL where shes going to school. So I wont get anything running anytime soon.

If anyone has some good tricks and tips on laying flex track I would sure be happy to hear them.

Nice start! I like the ground throws from Caboose Ind. as well, gives the opperator a chance for some hands on. No Name Rail Way has a nice ring to it, It could be The NN&RW.....just a thought. Cant wait to see more.

Since I cant really do anymore track work for now I figured I would give a shot at mocking up one of the mountain/hill/blob type things.

Nothing glued down yet of course, figured it would be easiest to just have a bunch of small foam blocks to place, kinda like putting legos together which is another hobby of mine.

Also thanks to everyone so far with the kind words, aaaand feel free to yell at me if Im doing it wrong haha
