"The Toolman's" posting on a similar issue reminded me of these. Since I now have a viable layout plan for a long passenger train I thought it might be time to get them going - or to sell them. --------- These were bought new from a TB dealer probably over 3 years ago. I don't expect the dealer or IM to take care of them. Any idea of how to fix these?: I seem to recall that it was not all of the units. Do the pics help? Is the solution new couplers?
On the internal couplers for the ABBA set, I replaced all of the couplers from my stash of unitmates. Not only can I make sure they line up correctly, but I also get a nice tight coupling too. Only the front couplers on the A units stay unmodified.
The overall sag isn't bad. I operate with some tolerances without the trains uncoupling on down hill grades. What I've noticed about my Kato, InterMountain and other units is: The factory couplers have enough room for a family of four to sit there and have a picnic. Most likely due to those who cut corners, the tight radius junkies. Grin! I do like David's aka DCESharkman idea of installing the Unimates. Downside, I loose the bump and go as I have to hand couple them. Upside, they won't come apart on my grades. Best part, they look like they should...close coupled and at the right height.
Thanks Rick and David - um, is this the item: N ACCUMATE COUPLER SET List Price: $2.25 per EACH Item Code: 23015 Includes 2 couplers and 2 coupler boxes. This Accumate® coupler can be used on any locomotive designed to accept a Micro-Trains® 1015 coupler https://secure.atlasrr.com/mod1/itemdesc.asp?ic=23015&eq=&Tp=
Don't remember what coupler is on these but there was a thread back a few years ago when the IM and MT FT units came out on the coupler mounting. The issue was that the coupler was to low and there was issue of the shell sitting on the frame because of machine screw heigth. The issue of the shell was resolve by using a flathead machine screw that sat lower. There were issues with the rear coupler which I resolved by using 1015s and with the body setting right with them, A little rear body sill filing fixed the issue that the new proper height caused. Both issues I believe were resolved with later releases and I believe it was the IM units that had the problem. The thread on all this did have some photos with it.
No, not those. Grin! Red Caboose, Unimate Couplers and they come delivered in 3 lengths short, medium and long shank. Try this: http://www.¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤.com/product-p/red-51000.htm Now that sucks when you can't post a location for a product. I never thought it would come to automated censorship. What are we thinking? Not grinning. You will need to send me a e-mail or do a oogle google search. My e-mail hpwrick@yahoo.com. I can send you whatever I please and what you need.
John - Thanks - I'm saving that post in my "Solutions" folder. Rick - Thanks - From "Grey One" is on the way. email addy of origin: steve.f.goodenough using gmail
I did the write up on lowering the ride height of the shell and closer coupling of the units. IM F-7 Project Pt. I IM F-7 Project Pt. II IM F-7 Project Pt. III The coupler pads hit the bottoms of the shells and the screw used to hold the coupler to the pad bottoms out on the frames causing it to sag. HTH, The S.
