I'll be making my first stop at Horseshoe Curve in a couple of weeks and would like some advance info regarding "need to know" items. I'll probably only be there for a couple of hours with the girlfriend and her kids since we'll be enroute to Hershey, but the plan is to stop there on the way and have some lunch. Should we pack a picnic lunch before we leave the house or is there someplace close by (i.e. Subway, McD's, KFC, etc) to grab a sandwich? Also, are there any fees I should be aware of for parking, etc? Thanks! Mike C. Pittsburgh PA
Entrance to the park is $6 I believe .. there is nothing close by food wise, but you can get some sandwiches in Altoona ..
Lots of places to eat in Altoona. My dad and I used to hit up the McDonald's right by the mall and museum, then go park behind the mall and eat there. The Railroad Press had a book a few years back that showed and had directions on how to get to alot of places out there. I know they sell it at both the curve and museum, get a copy, very good material in it.
if you go down into altoona there is 2 bridges and all kinds of shoppes. Theres a really good ice cream shop next to a sheets but i cant remember the street. The first sheets gas station is in altoona too. At the curve bring folding chairs because at times there can be a little bit of a wait. Watch out for snakes!!! Bring a drink because if it is hot out you do not want to get stuck up there without a drink...unless yous have $1.50 for the soda machine lol. Other than that a camera and you will be fine. P.S.
