Think you can judge the right colors? You can recognize the difference between Signal Red, Indian Red, and Warbonnet Red? DGLE and Black? Milwaukee Road passenger yellow and UP passenger yellow? Prove it. FM 100 Hue Test
I got partway done with the first row, but it's dinner time, so I'll have to start over. What's interesting already is how my perception of the hues of the little squares changes as I move them around.
Your score: 11 Gender: Male Age range: 40-49 Best score for your gender and age range: 0 Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520 This is what I scored. Cool test.
Your score: 8 Gender: Male Age range: 30-39 Best score for your gender and age range: 0 Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520 Here is my score!
I haven't finished it yet, it's not as easy as it looks, but I can tell the first and last squares apart which are as big a variation as a major manufacturer has been giving us with Santa Fe yellow lately.
Well I got back to the test and here are my results: Your score: 0 Gender: Male Age range: 60-69 Best score for your gender and age range: 0 Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520 What does the highest score of 1520 mean? All I can see (ha!) is a range of 0 to 99, which is pretty much the range of what my bowling score used to be. I can tell the difference between various model paint versions of Signal Red, etc. but I don't know which more closely matches the proto color!
Your score: 7 Gender: Male Age range: 60-69 Best score for your gender and age range: 0 Ok...stare at that page long enough....and you will need more then a couple of beers to set your vision straight again...LOL .
I did a 10..Age 50-59..falling asleep at 1:17 in the morning,LOL!!!.. I was hoping it was like the Last Starfighter..Get a high score,PPG comes and scoops ya up and sticks you in a room paying you $250,000,000 a year...
A lot of these hues are within the chromatic margin of error of prototype paint. I don't know how many times I have seen a variation of, say, Milwaukee Road's orange in a string of locomotives, caused likely by variations in sun fading and in paint batches. It's really not as exact as we like to pretend it is in model railroad land. I'll try taking this test tomorrow, perhaps, when I am not already eye-crossingly sleepy.
Score:15 Age:20-29 Some of the colors you have to blink and look away, that messes with eyes a little, maybe it's looking at the computer too long...:tb-confused:
Your score: 0 Gender: Male Age range: 30-39 Best score for your gender and age range: 0 Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520 WOOT!!!! Not bad for someone with (mild) glaucoma and a cataract.
Haha, fun test! Thanks for posting it. Your score: 0 Gender: Female Age range: 50-59 Best score for your gender and age range: 0 Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520
Along with good eyes, it takes good computer equipment. I'm curious on the monitors / LCD displays you guys with low scores are using. I've got an old classic IBM 17" P70 (65 pounds of fun, can collapse and warp a desktop) at home but the color rendition is pretty darn good, and I got a 4. I'd really like to know what the guys with zeros are using! I'm in the market for another monitor!
This is where the error in the test lies. It doesn't necessarily mean better equipment equals better score. In fact, its possible to cheat by using extreme calibration settings. We did a similar test in Color and Design class at the Academy of Art using physical color swatches, which are much more accurate since it eliminates the variation in monitor calibration.
