Hurricane Irene hit DeLuxe hard. The water flowed through the building up to over 2 feet deep. Inventory was swept off shelves two high! Theses photos give you an idea what happened. As of 1 am 8/31/11 the phones were still down in Whippany. When they come back, we will not be taking phones calls (our hands will be too muddy!) but if you leave a message we'll get back to you as soon as we can. It will be at least 2 weeks before we are able to ship any orders, longer before things are even close to normal again. Visit our home page to see photos of the devastation: http://www.deluxetrains.com/index.html
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :tb-hissyfit: Seriously, if you do decide to have a "factory damaged goods" sale, please let us know, I'm sure more than a few of us would help you out! All the best to your recovery!
Oh, man!! We feel for you, that is a hard hit to take in these times! Best of luck with the digging out.
Dave, sorry to see this. Carstens got by with just some minor water damage. This part of New Jersey was ok, been seeing the news about flooding your way. What if any is the results from your insurance?
If we can help in anyway please let us know. As a fellow modeler is times like this that we stick together. I hope you have insurance and hope you will recover ASAP. And again if help is needed I'm sure I speak for a lot of folks on here we would gladly help.
Thanks Daniel. As far as insurance, we don't have national flood insurance but the landlord does so inventory may not be covered. Our insurance agent still has no power or phone so it will be slow figuring things out. Dave
Dave, I'm sure many, if not all, modelers would be happy to receive cars, etc. that needed a little cleaning before use, and help you recover some of your cost. Of course, salvaging any electronics would be out of the question, but I hope that's a small percentage of your inventory, if any. If you decide to offer any of your submerged inventory, please post it so we can help you. Also I hope your production equipment was above water level.
Flooding suxs! I have only been involved with flooding once in my 62 years...its heartbreaking for sure. As others have said...when ya get back on your feet...have a 'Water damaged sale'. Almost all modelers will help ya recoup some of your loses. If there is a silver lining anywhere.... 2 shelves of damage beats 5 or 6 ;-) It looks like the workbenches and euiptment where high enough to excape damge. Hang in there Dave...it could have been worse...right? .
Wow Dave so sorry to hear about the damage from the storm; one good thing is that none of your company members got injured. I also hope all of your personal property is still in tact. I wish you all a fast recovery Glen
Count menin for an item or two on a flood sale. Real bummer but I'm glad it wasn't worse. A lot of people are going to be hurting from that "no flood insurance" thing.
Hey Dave, Im sorry this this happened to you,i live on long island and had minimal damage,if you need me to come out to you this weekend and give you guys a hand cleaning up,let me know,i'll be more than happy to help you out. jimmy
No if, and, or but's about it, Hurricanes suck. All my well wishes and I echo what others have stated: count me in for flood sale. my best to you, your employee's, and your invaluable business! Jan
Man will I be glad when this year is gone and done! Seems like from one end of the country to the other there have been serious problems and now this up the east coast from Carolina to Canada. Some of your products are in my modest fleet of cars and I certainly wish for a speedy return to production. I've spent a better portion of my life dealing with the aftermath of fires, explosions, collapses, and Lord knows what else from the official side of the fence prior to retiring and there will be a lot of work to get back to normal, but it can be done. Drywall has to come out where its been soaked, and electrical systems dried out and looked at. Fortunately most of the inventory just needs to be cleaned, however packaging depending on whether its cardboard, will be a loss. Biggest piece of help I can offer is in advice. Once you get an area clean let it become the clean zone and move all undamaged goods there. Set up a cleaning station outside that area and as stuff that was immersed in the flood waters is cleaned it gets moved into the clean zone. That finally gets an area ready for drywall replacement and cleaning. Lot of danged work but it does save work and time later.
