Anyone know what colour the Southern painted its signal masts in the mid 1960's, silver or black?

    Thanks

Most of the ones I recall had the mast painted silver but the light "shield" or holders were in large part painted kind of a "watery" black. However there were also quite a few signals that were painted entirely silver, mast and light shields. Then there was the semaphore that was painted exactly like the model I had bought - white part way up he mast with the upper part (including the blades) painted black.

I wouldn't be at all surprised by this since Southern was a "System" and a lot of its' component parts had their own ideas how things should be done.

In the 70s the signals on the Sheffield AL to Corinth MS main were silver with black shields around the three color lights. Later than you are talking but I dont think they were new from when I remember.

I remember seeing silver masts with black shields on Southern. I did not see all black signals until I moved to New England.

Now I live in the Midwest where masts are silver. The shields are black on the front side but the back side can be either black or silver. I don't know which style is newer.
