After checking my Hobby/feeBay checking account yesterday, I see I have had the payment taken out for the Model Railroader Magazine CD/DVD that I ordered when they were first offered. This usually means the CD/DVD is on it's way. I should have it soon. Now I have a small problem: What to do with 25+ years of MR in binders? I don't see SELLING them, because there seems to be NO market for them and shipping costs would very high. I would DONATE them in a second, but to whom? The local schools don't seem to be keen on taking all of the binders and our local Library has had a MR subscription for years, so what next? Try CRAIGSLIST? Any other ideas? With the CD/DVD coming out, I guess that the used MR market will get a little crowded.

Donating them is a great idea! Now comes the hard part, finding some-one to take them? If the schools and library don't want them, how about a local model railroad club, hobby shop, or childrens hospital? As a last resort, if there is NOBODY in your area who wants them, you can always recycle (GASP).

In my area, there is a train store which, along with everything else they sell, has boxes where they sell old train magazines (MR, Trains, etc) for prices between 25 to 75 cents. I give them my used magazines there once I am done with them, rather than recycling them. Maybe there is a similar store in your area?

This is my problem. I'm a long time, active member of the NMRA, Mid-Central Region, Division 8. So I have contacts with every club in the So. Indiana---N. Kentucky area. I know of at least 10 copies of the MR CD/DVD that have been ordered in the area. I'll check with my local hobby shop (Scale Reproductions, in Louisville[SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL HOBBY SHOP]), but I don't see any market (10 CD/DVD copies sold here). This why I've posted this thread here.

Recycling would be the VERY last straw!!

There's not much of a market for the old magazines. When I disposed of many years worth of them I went through them and cut out articles I wanted to save and recycled the remains. The magazines I didn't butcher I took with me to my Doctor and Dentists office and slipped them into the Mags in their waiting rooms. Maybe some youngster or adult read them and became interested in Model Railroading.

Send them to our service boys overseas.

My first thought was to scan them and ditch the papperwork into the recycling bin, but you're buying the CD/DVD version . . .

I'd go along with the ideas in posts 5 and 6 above.

Spread them around to some of the retirement communites in you're area. They are usually happy to get reading material.....Mike

That's a good idea. I'd offer to let you ship them to my 9-year-old here, but the wife would likely not appreciate that much rail propaganda in the house. ;-)

Ditto this. My mother was in a nursing home on several occasions over the last few years of her life. They had a book case in the communal area that was in need of some new reading material. It mainly had old issues of National Geographic.

Sending some of them overseas to our service personnel is also a good idea.
