Is there anyone actually modelling the Clinchfield railroad on the list. Who does n scale Clinchfield decals other than microscale?? Wombat
I have a friend who models the CRR in the 70s. Iwill ask about the decals and post here. If you have any more questions you may e mail me. Jeff
I don't model the Clinchfield, but I had the opportunity to railfan a portion of it in Virginia last year - awesome, lots of bridges and tunnels. I'm a west coaster, but that trip and the slides I took on it convinced me that there is some cool railroading east of the Rockies! It would be a great area to model in N.
Wombat, my Clinchfield buddy will be e mailing you about decals. Dave you are right, there are many bridges and tunnels on the Clinch and I am fourtunate enough to live only a few miles from the end of it. Jeff
Hi jeff / Dave thanks for the info in advance. dave which end of the Clinchfield are you?? If its the elkhorn end I'm envious as Hell, ifit the southern end I'm still envious. Greg a.k.a. Wombat
Greg, Looks as if the Clinchfield does have at least three N scale fans. Also found the photo of the Haysi B unit with the cab window mods. Will see you over the weekend and give it to you. Norco.
The Clinchfield was a Model Railroader project layout in the late 70's. It was covered in depth in the magazine series and the the subsequent book "Modeling the Clinchfield in N-Scale". The layout is now owned by James Deignan, who also owns the Cactus Valley HO project layout from 1999 (I always wondered what happened to those things). See James' website: http://hoscale.homestead.com/theclinchfield.html I'm originally a west coaster myself (and foaming SP fan as a result), but gotta say the mountains of SW VA and E. Tenn, along with the N&W, C&O, Virginian, Clinchfield, etc. take a back seat to noplace in terms of challenging railroading.
Greg - I'm closer to the north end. I live in the Cincinnati area, so we're about 5-6 hours or so from the Virginia portion of the line. I've only been there once so far - we railfanned the area around Copper Creek Viaduct - awesome.
The MR Clinchfield layout is what got me into N. I must have stared at those pics for hours when I was a kid. I had never seen such a concise effort at modeling prototypically large trains like that. I just about fell over when I got to see the real thing at a mall show back then. Very impressive. No MR project has surpassed it in my opinion. Not even the WC layout. They should do a Clinchfield II. Dave Los Angeles, CA -DPDP Model Accessories- http://eje.railfan.net/dpdp/
