Couple of post here in the last couple of weeks on resin/plastic shells. How about posting what you got, photo's,where you got them and what you think of them. Kaslo Shops F59PH sounds interesting but can't find one. Interesting how many is out there and maybe some I don't know of is why I'm posting this. Rick
Kaslo Shops is a Canadian concern - their products are distributed by Central Hobbies in Vancouver BC. I purchased an N Scale FP7 shell several years ago, before Intermountain came out with their model. In many respects the Kaslo FP7 shell is superior to the Intermountain shell, but it is just a shell and does not include a mechanism (which was available separately). I assume that the F59PH offering is of the same high quality. JnJ Trains is out of business - that was a source for a variety of resin shells. If you are into traction, Island Modelworks has quite a few offerings in N Scale. A word of caution here - their shells are very good, but every one that I have purchased has a slight warp longitudinally - very difficult to work around. Hell Gate Models offers the ubiquitous PRR B60b baggage car, and also another PRR baggage car of a nomenclature that escapes me at this moment. Very good stuff. Randy Gustafson (who posts here frequently) has (had?) shell castings for sale. He is a rare talent with respect to this particular endeavor. He can tell you how difficult it is to produce resin shells for the marketplace - that's why there as so very few attempts. 3D printing is about to change things significantly, but that's another topic.
Try Georges Trains in Toronto for the Kaslo F59ph . I believe they had Kaslo make these kits just for there store . Alex
Thanks Alex will take a look. Randy Gustafson shell I do have couple of them. Kaslo I have their FM H-16 shell which is better than the Backmann's ,I have the Atlas FM H15-44/H16-44 mechanism under it. The Atlas FM 's H15-44/H16-44 are the Loco's I have the most of.Not sure why but I think they look sharp. Had a JnJ Trains FM H15-44/H16-44 shell but not very good and I threw it away. Island Modelworks I will take a look ,thank you for the tip. I hope others share what they got. Rick
Looked at there items but the MP54 Clerestory roof trailer with square windows they had none left . They said they might redo if there is more interest. I guess I was looking for some thing different. Thanks for the reply. Rik
Kaslo F-59PH shell that found browsing E-bay. The seller's i.d. is jwhitmore, he of Central Hobbies. He hasn't had any items listed for months, but they appear from time to time. It is a very high quality casting, that includes a substantial etched fret. My only addition was the BLMA air conditioners. I also have a Kaslo SD-50F shell stashed somewhere.......
We have, as an option, randgust's resin kits for Class A Climax locomotives (two versions), and the Whitcomb 65-tonner. Here's the 18-tonner Climax as I built it: I have enjoyed building the kits I have gotten from him. The instructions are issued as a PDF with lots of photos and they are very helpful and thorough. When I got a little off one on something he gave me some tips via email. Some of these kits are not for the faint of heart and should probably not be the first kit one tries to assemble, as I found out the first time I tried to build this Climax (I positively butchered the first power chassis I had).
Geoff Gooderham of Vancouver sells incredible shells for Canadian Pacific cars through Central Hobbies....coach, 10-5 Grove sleeper, baggage Express and an ex silk car express baggage, RPO...he also has 60' wooden side truss bagagge express and this little combine number which I think is uber sweet... I'be built them all and they are awesome ! There'a a new HW diner also available I'm waiting for !!!!!
