So I was on the Kato website today looking for some spare parts and I came across listings for F40 "burnt orange air horns and sand fill parts:" http://search.cartserver.com/search...keywords=f40ph+&maxhits=25&go=Search&bool=AND I wonder what this means? The burnt orange air horn could possibly be for a Metra unit, but the sand fills parts would be black on that same unit. Any ideas out there? Chris
Kato will be offering three more F40s in commuter paint schemes. Metra is not one officially yet. The five chime horn is in common use today on many locos. There was a bad hint in a youtube video but it was stuffing a HO loco in the new display book. But even in the video they say it's not happening now. The Metra horns would be red, not orange even a dark one. They would not release parts before a loco goes into production.
Before the first set of commuter F40s were announced and released, some of those parts started showing up as well on the Kato site... like silver trucks. Also the parts aren't released, they are listed with a not available at this time note instead of a price. Kato is doing most of their production work, then announcing the product now days. The HO F40's horn looks burnt orange on the Kato website. I can't think of another F40 scheme that would be even close to burnt orange. Guess we'll just have to see.
