I started my SP MP15AC kitbash using the Atlas MP15DC as a starting point. All the long hood doors and/or louvers have been corrected to more closely reflect the arrangement on the AC unit. An extra roof section has been added as was a brakewheel.... Now I just need the online store at Atlas to come back online so I can order more parts.
No kidding. I had a big order in the cart a week or so before Christmas and lost Internet connectivity for almost 24 hours, then got busy, then the day I go back it's down. But back on topic....I'm very interested to see how the AC turns out. I would like to have a couple, one to do in MKT JD Green. Looks good so far.
I agree! I'm watching intently. I'd love to do a few to model those MP15's when they got handed down from Milwaukee to Wisconsin and Southern!
They all went to Soo initially, but BOO to that! You can only have in them in two colours: black and orange. That looks really nice. I'll have to find that article.
Here are some photos of recent progress now that my parts from Atlas finally arrived. The radiator exhaust section was taken from an Atlas GP15-1 shell and the intake grilles are from an etched set for tunnel motors. The forward walkway section, which still needs a lot of stepwell work, was taken from an Atlas SD50 walkway. The distance between pilot faces came out to be exactly 18" longer than my MP15DC model, which I understand is correct for the AC. Russ
Very cool. I saw the article in NSR a few years back and now with this thing, too, I am thinking this might be a fun project to do.
Will have to find that back issue so I can build one of those. I could use a couple in Family Lines paint Mike
Thanks, guys! Dunno quite yet. I want to do a unit that retained its light package into the 90's as I model roughly 1995 to 2005. I sort of want to do the 2735 as can be seen here http://espee.railfan.net/picindex/mp15ac_walkaround/index.html because its paint still looks good in '94, but I believe it was repainted like this after it had it's lights removed (the odd placement of the flank lettering is what makes me think this). I also wouldn't mind doing a speed lettered unit (some retained their light packages post speed lettering) but I believe those units are stationed in Kansas City and I model CA. Decisions, decisions!
More progress... Stepwell mods that are not quite per prototype but are way closer. I see I have more sanding to do!... Electrical cabinet and stepguard added....
Thanks, OC! Now it's starting to look more like an SP unit with the forward lights and numberboards added....
