I started N-scale back in 1997 and spent a fair amount of time on it when my son was born because I had a lot of time at home watching the baby and needed something to do between diaper changes. I built an under-the-bed layout using a 30" by 50" piece of particle board with little felt-padded feet which allowed it to slide under the bed without scratching the floors and sultaneously creating clearance for the wiring underneath.

Needless to say, since it had to fit under the bed, the topography was a bit limited. I was happy to get two loops into this limited space for dual cab operation.

Around 2001, I kind of lost interest as my son was able to go to school and I was able to get out more.

Last year I got laid up for health reasons, so I pulled out the layout. I said to myself I now have a basement, some time and some money. Time to build a layout with some grade. The previous owner left some bench work in our basement including a 28" by 8' table. This is what the layout in the video is based on. If you don't have sound, just be patient for the 1st 30 secs and the train will run.

I am very happy with this second layout, and am likely to build an NTRAK module next. I hope to join the Northeast NTRAK club soon and will be at the ARS show this weekend.

I am very interested in any constructive criticism y'all might have for me as I hope to keep building. I find it is very peaceful to model trains, and I hope to get better at it, so please take a look and let me know what can be better.

And yes I know that the grade is a bit steep in places :)

Very nice work. Reminds me I need to start posting some pictures of my currently under construction Unitrack layout.

Nice work on your first stand alone layout. I like the way you did the spacing on the trees and integrated it with the rocks.

This seems to happen to a lot of people. Good thing it was there when you had the inspiration.

I would say the word "beginner" is now long in your past.

Wow, this was a great of unitrack! Very impressive, and I really liked the great detail in those natural scenes. The loopty-loop layouts aren't really my style, but when they're well done they look great!
