Good to have us on the same side with regard to the B unit issue. Thanks for the comeback. All's good.
Rick, you sure the announcement contained Bluebonnets? I'm aware of their new Yellowbonnets (I have an A/B set due to arrive in the next few days). But Bluebonnets? Got a link?
micro scale #s PS-7-1-2 Parallel Stripes Dark Blue, 1/2".. PS-7-1-4 Parallel Stripes Dark Blue, 1/4 PS-7-1-8 Parallel Stripes Dark Blue, 1/8".. PS-7-1-32 Parallel Stripes Dark Blue, 1/32".. PS-7-1-64 Parallel Stripes Dark Blue, 1/64"..
Thanks so much river_eagle. I'll order a set of 1/32" and 1/16". It looks like the true width is about half-way between those two sizes. But I'll see what I can do with them. Hope the "Dark Blue" matches the blue Kato used for the A-Unit. Thanks!
I'm equally puzzled as I've never seen anything bluebonnet from Kato... just the yellowbonnet. I did go back and look at IM though. http://www.intermountain-railway.com/n/html/69722.htm Ya know what? There's some glitches there. Compare to the actual one: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=348296&nseq=0 The blue stripe should be significantly wider than the yellow and black. Even the experts seem divided on whether the ends were blue or black, got dirty too fast. That one looks blue to me and is right. And the silver color is 'reversed'; the body should be dark stainless and the doors lighter aluminum instead of the other way around. The contrast is nice, it's just...wrong. Generally IM does a better job than Kato, but I sure wouldn't pay any kind of premium for this particular unit just to get blue stripes. I've bought many of each, but I end up repainting all of them, neither is dead-on for ATSF paint and schemes. And if you've ever had to tear apart an IM unit to repaint it....yeah. And Kato certainly appears to have an orange shift going on the yellowbonnet, along with the inexplicable stripes across the louvers. From my standpoint I've learned to buy unloved units (like SOO and EL) and repaint from scratch, much cheaper than paying a premium for ATSF that's not quite right.
You mean a Kato B-Unit, right? Agreed. Though it looks wider than it is due to the black stripe at the bottom. It seems like the blue stripe should be the same width as the original red stripe.
Kato did a Bluebonnet F7A but.to my knowledge, only put them in the small train sets. I dont think they were ever available separately.
I just enjoy stirring up the hornet's nest. You are so right no blues, just yellow's. This time around. Heck, what's a paint bottle and compressor for?
I believe they did sell separate from the sets for a short time if I'm not mistaken. Or, maybe not. I can't find anywhere that this unit had it's own part number. So you may be right.
I have another book somewhere by Joe McMillan that I'm sure gives the numbers of all the units to get the bluebonnet schem but I caan't find it at the moment.
