I need to instal a short length (about 10 inches) of chain link fence on my N-scale layout. I bought some wedding veil material and styrene rod with the idea of scratch-building it. After measuring the prototype fence, and discovering the upright supports are 2 inches in diameter, that translates to 0.0125" styrene rod. This is awfully thin! Then I ran across the BLMA N-scale chain link fence. To those of you that have used it, do you have any pictures of it on your layout? What diameter was the rod supplied with this fencing? Thanks for any comments...
Here you go...the GMM instead of the BLMA though - my BF. No assembly required. Just cut it out of the sheet, use the drill jigs to pre-drill the holes, and stick it in. I don't glue it in, I just put it in the holes so if it gets in the way or knocked out it's an easy replacement. Love the stuff, use it in many places as right-of-way fencing. Used as right of way fencing:
Sorry, I have no personal experience with BLMA fence. I do like Gold Medal Models chain link fence, though - -Mark
Those are very nice looking telephone poles. Planning to add any EZline to them? I for one didn't know there was an alternative to BLMA fencing. Have to say I'm very impressed
I used 0.015" music wire for fence supports on my 10-foot-high security fence: It's more than strong enough for the task; I had to use pliers against a hard surface to put the bends at the top of the posts before I installed them. I then used chiffon, spray-painted gray, for the chain-link material: (In that picture, you can see how I installed the fenceposts: I sleeved the music wire into sections of 1/16" brass tubing, then mounted the tubing into 1/16" holes in the scenery.) I had to scratch-build my fence because (a) nobody was making tall chainlink fences at the time; (b) I had to contend with some level changes that etched brass wouldn't handle well, and (c) I couldn't afford enough etched brass to encircle my entire government facility!
Here's a picture of the start of my BLMA fence. Still dont have the poles in place, which are very close to scale. But hopefully you can see how nice the BLMA fence is.
