I hear you there! The whole thing is a spoof!

I had a situation where the purchaser bought my item, I shipped it the next day with a confirmation ##### attached to it. Buyer sent a dispute to Ebay stating that item did not arrive. I sent Ebay the confirmation #### showing it had arrived. After about 2 weeks $$$$ disappeared out of my paypal acct. I still have yet to get my $$$$ for the transaction. And the worst part is, I NEVER heard anything back from Ebay after repeated e mails.

Paypal and Ebay are BOTH a JOKE!!!!

I went through this exact scenario three weeks ago, but the ending was not the same. Ebay/PayPal froze the amount in question, but never took the money. Once the item showed up, the buyer never closed the dispute, so I filed it with eBay through the dispute case and it was cleared in less than 12 hours. Funds were released back to me almost immediately.

Call it good fortune, but never had these types of issues come up with eBay or PayPal.... They've always responded quickly to any issues I've had in the 14 years I've been using them and believe it or not, they have come a long way in protecting buyers and sellers. Not perfect, but better than when they started, which was like the wild, wild, west at times....

Their fees, on the other hand, are a whole debate in itself. You pay for that market penetration I guess.

With all the typical Ebay and Paypal bashing that seems to show up from time to time, I feel the need to share my personal experiences. I've been a very active Ebay/Paypal member since 1999 as both a buyer and seller and have overall nothing but positive experiences. The handful of problems I've encountered have always been resolved to my satisfaction- this includes both buyer and seller issues. I have my Paypal account linked to my bank account and have never had problem with frozen accounts or monies removed. I've bought and sold various items ranging from pennies to multiple thousands of dollars and have never felt that the associated fees were excessive. For me, Ebay and Paypal provide a place that is unmatched in convenience and availability of almost anything I'm looking to buy, as well as a place to sell stuff that I no longer need. Whatever I end up with after the seller fees is more than I would have by letting these item sit in a drawer in my house.

Are eBay Fees High When Compared with Other Auction Sites and a Question to the Group

I recently sold almost $485 worth of N scale items and paid $43.57 in fees which is less than 9%. (I did offer free economy shipping.) I compare that with the 20% or more I've been quoted at other auction/sales sites and it doesn't feel so bad. I've personally never had a problem selling, including international. (You should have seen the look on the Post Office clerk's face when I mailed the Aristocraft G Scale 2-8-8-2 to France. I didn't offer free shipping on that. :))

Not to say I haven't taken a bath on selling a couple things or overspent a little when I was learning the market but overall, if you have quality items, I think they sell just fine and buyers don't have any problem with you.

Okay now - Question for the group. Since we are on the topic of eBay, I have a pair of custom painted CB&Q E8s (original blue box) with red nose striping I'm thinking of listing. I think the decal work is outstanding (and the reason for this is that I didn't do it) with no bubbles or frosting that I can see and it looks like they are sealed in with Dullcoat. What does the group think is a fair price for the pair? (Sorry, I don't have pictures yet.)

In this instance there is none worthy of Staff concern. If that were so, the topic would be closed.

Everybody has different experiences. Just because it is satisfactory or better for one person, does not translate at all to others in part, or as a whole. I have been with eBaY now for a only a few months shy of 16 years. Although I have 100% Positive Feedback, I did have some troubles both as a seller and a buyer. I had troubles the same with PayPal, which caused me to discontinue that using service. So it goes. For those who have never experienced the stomach twisting stress of doing battle with those folks to get things set straight, thank your lucky stars.
