I need help with my BLMA Spine Cars, I believe I need to switch out the stock wheels with some from another manufacture. I have been trying to run them on my clubs N-trak layout, I feel the track work may be to blame. Prior to our last show I reamed out any bolster that did not pivot easily and I also loaded each platform with a DI Roadrailer trailer that was weighted. I have successfully ran MT 89' flats and had good results with Kato's 53' well cars, DI's Maxi IV's and DI's Twin Stacks, all with the standard wheels. Craig or someone else at BLMA said I could always run MT pizza cutters, but I would prefer to stick with the metal wheels. I need some suggestions or ideas on which to order since, I do not have a LHS to buy from. Is there a metal wheel with a taller flange? Would the wider tread wheels help? I am at a loss and will appreciate any and all ideas. Thanks in advance..............
Fox valley models .540 33" wide tread wheels will fit. They're like a metal pizza cutter wheel. I don't particaly prefer their look but I have them on some cars that came equipped with them and they run fine.
Since you already corrected the usual culprit of poor tracking (sticky bolsters) I would agree with ATSF5078's suggestion of the FVM wide wheels in .540 width. When I've had a BLMA car with issues, this almost always takes care of it. These beauties need very good track.
I had the very same problem with my BLMA Spine Cars. Plus one of the wheelsets caused a dead short. I replaced the wheels with Micro=Trains Low Profile wheels and solved both problems.
Thanks for the suggestions on the wheel sets, I just placed an order for the FVM wide tread wheels. Hopefully, this will fix the tracking issues so I can run these AWESOME cars at our next N-trak event.
