Hi all... very long time no post. About 2 years ago, I took this picture off a broken Google Images link (you know the ones -- where it appears as the tiny shot in their frame, but then you click on it and the link winds up going nowhere?). It's one of those 'European style' ultra-small layouts where all the action takes place in a kind of self-contained 'stage.' I have very limited space to build a model railroad in my apartment, but when I do embark on it, I'd like to do something top-notch, if miniscule, and the European approach of single-scene railroading appeals to me. However, as you can see from the image, I don't have the foggiest idea of how big the thing is; the dimensions have always been distorted. So, does anyone want to hazard a guess how big this layout is in terms of length and width? Any help would be much appreciated. I also managed to find a website and a youtube video with the built layout but, again, no exact dimensions: http://www.scalefour.org/shows/scaleforum2009/heptonwharf.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teyUywobxGc By the way, if anyone has any suggestions for similar track plans, I am hardly married to this one. It just seemed like a good, simple plan that wouldn't cost a lot, and would be highly mobile as-needed.
Another layout I've given serious consideration to cloning in some regard is the Haston Nomad, which is just superbly put together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7Sul2nX2zQ
A good WAG for that layout's dimensions would be about 1' x 6' including the "fiddle" extensions. It could be a foot shorter if you don't have 6'.
Just in case anyone was curious, I got to the bottom of it by emailing the Scale Four group. According to them, Hepton Wharf is 7'9" by 1'9". That's probably a little too big for me to duplicate on any level, but it's good to know for future reference.
