I ve been waiting for the past several years for some groups of figures to be made. I would like to see some troops at a train station. All packed up, sea bags in hand. Kissing their girls goodbye or arriving home! Also a group of small town parade figures. An honor guard with flags, small marching band, girls twirling batons, etc... Anyone else interested in figures like this?
I agree with what you suggest, but would like to add modern U.S. figures, policeman. fireman, mow workers and just everyday people. Kinda hard to have 70 dressed German figures in the modern U.S.
Sure, I'm interested. But what do you propose that we do about this? Just asking on a forum isn't going to achieve anything. Any plan of action? Are you going to approach Preiser, Bachmann, Model Power, Noch, or anyone else about your idea? Those are just a few of the firms that make/market figures in N scale. There are many nameless Chinese firms that make figures that are very inexpensive, like less than 10 cents or even 1 cent each. So, sure, lots of people are interested. What do we do next to get them produced? Talk about them here? While TB is a great forum, ideas like this don't get very far in the hobby manufacturing world without some action.
Actually, most of the figures you are suggesting are very much available, and have been for about 30 years. Just look around at retailers and etailers. Preiser might be your best bet. But others have offered sets exactly as you recommended for many years. The only thing in your lists that might be missing is modern US troops at airports. I'm sure that will be coming in the next year or so, if it isn't already here, as I've seen modern US troops in many sets--putting them in an airport shouldn't be too tough. Everything you are asking for has been available for years!
I completely agree I would like to see U.S troops. I have been trying to get a troop train going and troops would be the finishing touches for the scene, but I have been unable to locate any. Pete if you know of anywhere to find some please fill us in. How do would we go about changing things?
I am also one of those who models the WW II era in n-scale. When MTL introduced the troop train cars, I started posting about figures in military dress uniform to populate the stations. I recall that Walther's had such a set in HO. I think Walther's may have contracted with Preiser to make the set. Most people who responded to my plea suggested mini-fig which were unpainted figures and what I saw was in field gear, not the uniform that a person would wear for travel by train. no emoticon for a sigh.
Roll your own...purchase some of the Preiser unpainted n-scale sets, find the figures with suits, break out your optivisor & miniature tools...add military caps to their heads & sea bags out of modeling putty & then paint to suit the US Troop prototype. There's also girl figures & others in those sets that can be modified to match your various requests.
I need a few hundred sailors coming back from (or going to) weekend liberty in Chicago. I'd rather build model railroad than make a few hundred sailors in summer whites. The time can be better spent.
Randy Stahl, I agree with you that I do not want to have to paint n-scale figures to fulfill the need for people in military dress inform to complement the troop trains cars and other WW II models. 1. I am 74 years old, so not so steady to do the painting. 2. It has been done in HO, why not n-scale?
1/144th is fine for N. thanks for the pic Roger. What is the part# on that? I want to try to locate some of those.
I am not aware of any cowboy figures in n-scale however there are some men and women in dress that could fit civilians during the Civil War era. GHQ has an unpainted line of Civil War, but in uniform.
yes there is an option in the tabletop scene but those figures are not highdetailed like Preiser Merten etc. I bought a few ACW figures and I donĀ“t like painting such small figures. There is a german shop http://www.trafofuchs.de/index.htm that sell cowboys in Z-scale but not in N-scale.
