Hi all, I am just returning to model trains with my little son. He is very into trains (at 2) and I remember enjoying them when I was younger so I thought I would build one for him (well and for me really, hahaha... but kids are a great excuse). I don't have much space so I am building it into my computer table at home. Basically my table is a bit dining table, and I have built a huge drawer that comes out from underneath it. It is all very sturdy and rigid, but obviously there isn't heaps of space, either area or height. I have 130cm x 80cm of usable space, with a good strip of board at the back that is underneath the overhang of the table and that I will use for transformers etc. I have 12cm of height clearance. There is a pic of the setup so far below. At the moment it is just the table and I am working on the layout in Anyrail. Anyway, looking forward to getting this up and running, and hope you chaps and chappettes can help a bit when I get stuck. Would love to return the favour but I am very much a beginner here and am having quite a bit of trouble working stuff out (this NME PowerCab thing is doing my head in!!) If you are interested I can post a bit of a sequence of the setup coming together over time too. So hello and salutations to all! Chin chin!
Welcome to TrainBoard! Great to read you've a youngster involved. Hope he can be hooked for life. This could be a geat thing for both of you! Let us know how you progress.
Glad to have both of you with us! Looks like a decent size for a starting place, with the advantage of being able to be secured from little hands when need be.
Hi Pharian, Welcome to the train Board. Your use of available space is impressive, especially the excellent modification to the table. Obviously your layout will be equally as inpressive. Please share with us as you progress.
Thanks guys, if anyone has any comments on the layout would love to hear it. Want to know if it sounds viable at all before I order all the track (exciting!).... it won't let me post links but there is a thread in the layout section. Would love to hear what you guys think!
Not to worry. There is a built in time delay, which helps protect us from hit and run spammers. It buys us time to watch for them, so they cannot just join, and quickly post their sleazy trash.
Pharian, First Copy the URL of the site you wish to link. Then on your Train Board reply page, click on the World w/Chain Link icon in the bar above the reply text. Finally Paste the copied URL into the space provided and select OK. The link will highlight when you Submit your reply. Simple as falling off a log....LOL As Ken said, you will have to wait the required three days before links and photos are allowed, but today may be the end of your wait.
Welcome to Trainboard, Pharian. We will look forward to photos of your progress. Good excuse, the two-year old. I think we have all used that at one time or another, but I'm sure that what you build will make the little guy happy. Father-son railroading and modeling experiences are the best.
Welcome. There are a few Aussies on here Where in Sydney are you from - I was a shire bloke, but now down in Melbourne
