I am very gentile with the pushbuttons on the Digitrax throttles. I have a DT400r, a DT402d and a UT4r. The stuck buttons I have created were due to pushing the buttons at a slight angle. After the first few stuck buttons I had, I now know what they feel like when they are going to get stuck and I can correct the condition immediately.

One of my Digitrax DT400 put a speed value of 7 sometimes after I "zeroed" the speed . Since I saw that I always double check . When I go out of the room I have a wall master on/off switch that shut everything in the room except lights which is on a separate switch .

I find that after turning the throttles to zero....pushing the "Emergency Stop" button DOES stop any throttle creep or any trains moving. It also stops trains running at any speed on the track. You have to turn the throttles back up to get the trains to move again.

Its a step that I am used to doing when I leave the trains for any reason. I just forgot this one time ;-)

    George,

Like you my railroad is not in the house. When I leave, I kill the AC to the layout.

    Hey Gary...

Most everything in THE RV runs off 12v from the inverter which is at the black drop down door in the center of this pic.

That inverter also has the 30 amp 110v breaker that shuts all the power off...to everything. That includes the roof air conditioner in the summer...and the furnace in the winter. :-(

The command station is behind the right door at the end of the aisle. Behind that same door is a toggle switch which shuts off the 12v before the command station. Not that it would be that hard to walk down there...open the door...and flip that toggle off when I step away from the trains and go inside the house.

    BUT...

If you look just inside the RV door at the left...next to the handrail......you can barely see 2 rocker switches. One runs the step light you see at the bottom right next to the furnace vent of that end panel. The other rocker switch USED to opertate an outside 12v 'porch light'. That outside light never has operated.

My plan is to take the toggle switch out from that cabinet in the back and run a length of 16 AWG Red/Black Zip Cord Wire from back there...up to the unused rocker switch at the door...and then back to the command station. That way I can kill 12v power to the command station as I exit THE RV....wthout killing the 110v to the Air Conditioner or Furnace :)

I just have to see if and/or how much 12v power will be lost if I run that 16 AWG Red/Black Zip Cord Wire 14 feet up to the rocker switch...and back to the command center...hmmmmm. Time to dig out the old multimeter and check. ;-)

Be the pic and the idea of using an old RV as a train room. All self contained. ;)

    Wellllllllllllll.....

Ran the wire to the rocker switch by the door today. Everything still works great !!

I thought it was a 12 VDC line. Turns out it is 18.22 VDC ! I ran about 15 feet of wire to the switch...and 15 feet back to the command station....for a total of 30 feet. It dropped the voltage to 18.08 at the command center. I think I can live with a .14 voltage drop.

    :teeth:

Now all I have to do is start remembering to flip the rocker switch off if I am going to be leaving the trains alone. :eek:hboy:
