    Hi All,

Several months ago, just after I finished my Baldwin DT6-6-2000 a Penssy fan asked me if I could do a DT6-6-2400 or RT-624. And you me, so here it is.

This shell has been improved over the DT6-6-2000. I have made the horns separate parts, moved all the grills and number boards, lengthened the walkway on one side only making one of the handrails unique, added the roof top antenna. Removed the curved section where the cab meats the walkway, removed the large plates that covered the fuel and air tanks. Added a replacement fuel and air tank section, shortened the stacks & created new trucks as the RT had different ones to the DT.

The new antenna are brass etchings, which will also come with handrails. I have made the new brass etchings out of 12 thou brass, the DT had 8 thou which I feel where to thin, they will also be a bit wider also making them stronger.

I haven’t ordered the brass yet and I would like to get a rough idea of how many to order, the more I get the cheaper they become. Can anybody who is interested let me know via PM, email or on here, thanks.

This shell and parts will be available in a few weeks, after the test print, on Shapeways in the FUD material. I will also be able to offer this in a higher quality print at 16 microns resolution with specified orientation from another source but that will cost a bit more, I will have more info on that soon.

The chassis is taken from an Atlas C-628/C630. The shell fits directly onto it without modification. The truck side frames are also 3D printed and replace the atlas ones, they simply clip into place using the same fixings. The system is the same as I used for my DT6-6-2000 as shown below.

    Hi All,

I think the RT-624 is finished. Here are some rendered images of the model.

I have added some more detail to the trucks and nose, lowered the headlight, added the correct end handrails with drop down platform etc. and made a few internal changes that you can’t see.

I have ordered the test print in FUD which should be here in about ten days and I am just waiting for the quote to come back for getting them printed in XHD (16 micron).

The brass Additions sheet is finished and will contain handrails, antenna (train phone), sun shades and MU hoses.

The rendered images show the 3D printed handrails.

Given the number of people that have said they want the brass Additions I will be ordering several sheets which brings the cost down to $8.50 a set. I am taking pre orders for the brass just to cover the initial setup cost. Hopeful if enough people pre order I can order them next week.

To pre order the brass Additions please drop me an email or PM me.

    Hi All,

Well Shapeways have shipped the test print of the RT-624 and it will be here tomorrow (Friday). I will do a test fit onto the C-628 chassis and check all the detail. Once happy I will make it available to you.

I also have the price for the XHD (16 micron print) and it is expensive, it’s about 4 times the price of Shapeways FUD, but that is the price you pay for custom one off prints where you can set your own orientation etc. Plus here we have to pay the 20% VAT on top.:( The actual price will depend on where you live as it will be shipped to me then I need to ship it on to you. Please contact me with your location and I can give you a quote for the XHD.

I almost have enough pre orders to get the brass Additions, hopefully I can also order them tomorrow and they will be with me next week. If anybody else is happy to pre order their RT-624 brass Additions it would be very helpful, thank you to everybody that already has.

If you pre order your brass Additions and then order a XHD shell I will ship them to you together and combine the shipping.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

I just had a parcel arrive with the first N Scale RT-624 in it, and it looks fantastic. I will get it into the Goo Gone tonight to clean it up and I will share some pis with you over the weekend. First inspection looks great, I just want to check everything fits together properly and then I will release them for sale.

In the bags are the trucks, cab interiors and horns.

The Brass Additions have been ordered this morning and will be with me next Wednesday.

Looks great James, is that the High Res version or no? Because it looks great and if that is not High Res than that won't be necessary.

This is a FUD print (UHD 29 micron print) form Shapeways and so far it is looking great. The XHD 16 micron print will be blue; I am ordering some on Monday.

    Hi All,

Well it’s ready to go! Here it is, minus the brass bits, horns, cab interiors and a bit of paint! (Please forgive the terrible picture but it is late here).

It still needs to be cleaned up properly but the main test was to check everything fits well and the unit can run, which it does.

Here is the kit with the 3D printed hand rails cut out of the shell.

It is now available on Shapeways, here is a link.

I have made a few very minor improvements to the model so on Shapeways it will say 'first to buy'.

The brass Additions have been ordered and are due next week, I will send out sets to those who have already paid shortly after, if you have ordered a XHD shell then I will post them together.

The XHD shells are also now available; please contact me if you would like a quote.

    Hi All,

Look what turned up in the post today!

These are 12 thou brass and should be much easier to work with than the former 8 thou sets.

I should be able to send them out on Monday.

    Hi All,

The Brass Additions have been sent out and an instruction sheet for the RT-624 is available on my blog site, you can find them in shop/locomotive shells section.

Please note: that if you are going to add the brass handrails, when you cut out the 3D printed handrails don’t throw them away! You will still need the centre section of the 3D printed end handrails as this is the link platforms.

The first set of XHD printed shells for the RT-624 are due to arrive tomorrow, I’m looking forward to seeing them.
