For those that do not frequent the other fora as much as this one, I thought I'd share my Picasa slideshow of my progress rather than have a detailed description. Thanks for looking, comments & criticisms most welcome! I have been wanting to build this since the movie originally premiered. I also wanted to capture some of the more memorable features and scenes from the film. Still much more to do, and more fun to have... https://plus.google.com/photos/1003...6081540493789559954&oid=100384422437956630383
Here is the inaugural run of my nearly completed Polar Express.
Originally looking at the video I thought that the car lights were too bright. Then my old mind remembered what little I had seen of the movie and I recollect that those car light were bright also coming through those windows.
That's some very nice work. Well done. Going to the movie, we had our grand kids over and put the movie on for them. We have a surround sound system with 15 speakers and when the train pulled in at the beginning of the movie, all of us were astounded at the audio. It sounded like the train pulled right through the room.
This seriously has to go down as one of the great N scale builds. Absolutlely outstanding! Also, how is it that the Tom Hanks character looks EXACTLY like Tom hanks??
John Moore, this is what I was going for. I love the way the light shines down on the snow. montanan, thank you and I bet you were watching the BluRay! tehachapifan, very, verykind words thank you! Stay tuned, more surprises to come! Which Tom Hanks? The one on the roof or my conductor? John
Nice job! I like the snow on the top of the one passenger car. Not sure I'm I'm going to model that portion of the movie on mine. You should complete yours by adding sound to the locomotive. I did that and lit up all five passenger cars I have, and the rear red light. Great minds think alike!
Great work! The details are awesome... Anyone ever think to model the ice scene yet? That would be fun.
Sweet!! Nice touch having the guy on the roof, and his lantern works! Makes me want to go play in some snow!!!! Naw, just kiddin, play with trains is a better answer! Sure want to see how it comes out when you're done.
Thank you! The "snow" is removable so I can run it either way. Rare earth magnets inside the roof and very thin sheet metal glued on the inside of the snowcap. Just finished the rest of the snow for the other cars, except the observation. That one will be tricky. Used white shrink wrap tubing this time so I don't have to worry about the paint chipping off. I'm thinking about sound but I already have two bills into it so far. That would likely make it three. Plus I do not have the DCC equipment to do that yet.
gcav17, Thanks! badlandnp, the glow you see is the hobo's flickering led/fiber optic campfire, fire spit and coffee decanter:
Al out complete with the entire train. Added a conductor and his nano led lantern to the vestibule in the coach, and created white shrink wrap tubing "snow" for all the cars:
Nice job! Now all that you need is a nice display case! I did that with mine. Bought a nice one from Michael's with a glass front that opens. I added a silver bell and a golden ticket. Looks awesome.
