My name is Alain Kap. I'm a Luxembourger but live in Germany together with my wife Alice and son Alan Justin.

I've been a member of this forum for some time but only as an occasional reader.

I model the ATSF 4th District of the Los Angeles Division aka The Surf Line in 1945. I have created a blog two years ago, to share my work on the layout. http://atsf-surfline.blogspot.com/

I am also active in the NMRA and am the first president of the newly established European Region.
    In January 2014 I earned MMR #526. http://my-route-to-mmr.blogspot.com/

It's because of the weather. We like to spend our holidays where the weather is fine. And if we can combine it with amazing landscapes and trains the better it is. :)

Welcome aboard! Had two wonderful opportunities to be stationed in your country, although that was back when it was still divided (which I guess is the bad old days now). Congrats on the MMR achievement and look forward to seeing what you have to share.

That was a bit too far off for me. I met many in Luxembourg at the annual Remembrance Day (WW2 Liberation of Luxembourg) from Baumholder (Army) and Bitburg and Spangdahlem (Air Force)
Since the 1950's there was an annual celebration week (later only a week-end) with displays of military equipement (tanks, Helicopters), demonstrations and parades. And of cours we socialized a lot. Was a great time, although less railroady :)

I use to beg bread in Germany shortly after the end of WW2.
Can’t imagine what the Germans thought when an American toddler came to their door and ... I still love that German black bread!

Welcome, Alain! It's wonderful to find another modeler with an interest in southern California. Your orange trees look fine -- and I'm really impressed with that cool garbage truck.
