We just finished the first weekend in August. How did you do with it? Did you get a lot accomplished? Saturday was a long day for me and nothing model railroading got done, save from talking about it with a fellow co-worker and friend. After working 4:00am-1:30pm, I punched out and went home only to return an hour later as a customer with my family in tow. Sunday however was different. My day off was nice and quiet with the family out visiting my future mother in law, I had the house to myself. I worked most of the afternoon on the Galesburg City Job's switcher, a Kato NW-2. CB&Q NW-2 by Jim Wiggin posted Aug 3, 2015 at 3:11 AM For my era, this switcher wears the post '57 simplified scheme unlike the Kato decorated ones so there are a few subtle differences. Right now I'm modeling a switcher, 9240, that was based out of Burlington but my story is it was helping out in Galesburg while the Galesburg SW-7 was in the shop. Not a lot done, still have the other side to decal but a nice relaxing day nonetheless. So how about you? What did you get done this weekend? Let us know with a picture if you have it. We'll come back here on Friday the 7th and do it again. Until then, have a happy and safe week and... High Greens!
Some further enjoyable Google Earth explorations, along my proposed r-o-w. Learned a lot about how I should plan, versus what I'd been thinking.
Now that I have a clear space to work on my models, I had to remember where all of my modeling tools were! It took a good part of Sunday afternoon to find them and dig them out of the boxes. Then, I spent the rest of the evening looking for photos of the Japanese locos that I have so that I can put the numbers and what I think are the builder's plates such on them. Part of the enjoyment for me is searching for this kind of info. A friend of mine once said that he believed my interest in railroads (besides a love of trains itself) is from my interest in history. I don't think I can argue with that!
My workbench is pure chaos and a total mess. We should post pics of our work spaces. I would win the clutter award!
I've been trying over the past few weeks to clean up and organize the room in which the layout is located. I have a very bad habit of unpacking things from boxes and just laying them "wherever" on the layout. I figured that if I pack away projects, then I should at least make some headway pon these individual projects as they are packed and organized. I finished the door details on my 6-pack of Tichy Panel Side Hoppers. I must have been working on these cars for a good 6-9 months. All that is left is hand brake detail and paint! Only another 12 locomotives to finish decal applications on.
This weekend was full of cutting, sanding and staining ties for installation under my newly scratch built turnouts
