Mamaroneck, New York is the location. Right on the water. Finally cleaning out the flooded basement after Sandy? I've restored worse. But they A) started with "free". and B) were significant to someone in the family. Took weeks and months, but why buy someone else's junk, restore it, and since it ain't original, worth less than you paid for it?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-Lionel...-Cars-Track-/331616469283?hash=item4d35e1c123 "Engine Need Repair. Sold As Is" Geez...mangled MARX hopper, one MARX 2-rail switch, but check out that locomotive. Front plate and pilot truck..gone. Main rods, eccentric, valve hear, pistons, gone. Rear truck and drawbar...gone. E-unit swinging in space. Starting bid thirty bucks, seventeen more to ship it. Junk. Five dollar box at a train show? Opinion. Dave
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-LIO...PARTS-MODEL-/191651118486?hash=item2c9f4bfd96 Even a good one of these isn't worth half the asking. Cheapest of the cheap, 6017, no ladders, no toolboxes, no window insert, no stack, no light, one coupler on the cheesy plastic trucks. Even the trucks aren't worth anything...and they're riveted onto the frame anyway. To top it all off, the infamous broken off roof corner syndrome...and there is nothing of value. Fifty Cents at a train show. Opinion. Dave
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-6-26...er-Car-1051-/141732883254?hash=item20fff02b36 Seen a few of these type of offerings. Says in the description "no reserve", yet the only thing shown is BIN, add to cart, add to watch list. What kind of an evilbait rule is that? How can you bid on something "no reserve" that has no shown option for it?
Some folks essentially use a template for their listings. And don't look carefully before posting. Others, well......
C-6! http://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-TRAI...O-GAUGE-C-6-/131570773386?hash=item1ea23aad8a A) filthy. B) stirrup steps bent or missing (insufficient photos). C) all doors and door frames missing (and getting proper colour match is difficult). D) Couplers (at least one) bent. Complete and clean, non-operating version ten bucks. NOT eighteen plus ten to ship it. Makes it delivered (if complete) about three times it's worth. But, in this condition, not worth squat. Seven bucks plus shipping in parts, not sure if all springs included, plus cleaning and fixing coupler......I'd give the Al Cox five bucks (delivered) for the trucks. Opinion. Dave
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Prew...-Connectors-/291526088809?hash=item43e04f1869 Rusted. Bent. Apart. Missing. The power supply is the early 250 watt, not the later 275 watt. Missing lens....unknown if it even works. Milk platform rusted to snot..as is the 153 controller on top of it. Standard gauge steamer has parts all over the table. Everything is filthy if not rusted. BIG pile of rusted track clips. Track pins missing, rusted. Coal loader filthy, missing conveyor belt and diesel cover. Water tank missing spout, searchlight car missing lens.. The F3A is trashed...scratched, filthy, even appears to be melted behind the cab. Caboose standard broken roof corner, log dump car missing stakes on one side, appears that the crane boom is bent and/or mangled. Insufficient side photos to even tell what is really there. Certainly no where near five grand. "I have limited knowledge here." Good call. Opinion. Dave
Yeah. Their "We have limited knowledge about.." is quite telling. I see a couple of items I'd like to own, such as the 313, if not the re-issue. This is just another fishing expedition.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Train-Set-Lot-/271947288368?hash=item3f51524f30 Do you see a BIN of $9200.00 here? I see nothing special unless it's under the bench and not shown. Even the starting bid of $4500.00 is so absolutely unreasonable as to make one spew coffee all over their monitors. I'm seeing $200, maybe $250. Track is junk, Marx engine is of zero importance to the auction. Opinion only.... Dave
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-2331-Virginian-FM-Type1-1965-/331617146085?hash=item4d35ec14e5 Virginian FM. BIN at $5,850.00, starting bid of $4,500.00 is a reach. By a minimum of one decimal point. According to some TCA articles, they all have screwhole cracks because the factory used the wrong screws. Who knows. But he's out to lunch anyway... "Lionel 2331 Virginian FM Type 1 1965." Except they were 1955. Opinion, as always. Dave
http://www.ebay.com/itm/POST-WAR-LI...TRANSFORMER-/301698984228?hash=item463ea92924 Made 73-74-ish. 2-4-0. Postwar is considered 1945 until 1969. This post-dates that. MPC era is 1969-1986. This is hurt. Main rods, phony valve gear, crankpin bolts, lead truck missing. Not sure what else. Rusty track, two cars, I do believe the asking of 40 starting plus 26 to ship is outside the realm of what it should be for someone who expects it to be a functional, complete set. But, that's just an Opinion. Dave
Found at an estate sale= Automatic guaranteed gold. NOT. Maybe worth a couple of bucks for parts, at most?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Stan...912-to-1924-/301668437757?hash=item463cd70efd No way it's C-6. Come on. Checked the Greenberg Standard Gauge Guide. They have two classes only. Good is 1850 (and this doesn't come up to that level), and Excellent is 3600. So a BIN of 4085 (down from 4300...you save 215!) is so far out to be ridiculous. I passed it along to CTT, they laughed their collective hindquarters off. Opinion, as always. Dave
