I've seen some super work benches with organized spaces for tools and such but I seem to do my best work while in the middle of chaos and clutter with the pieces of various projects spread out. Here's a candid photo of what I've got going right now. How about you all?
Who let you into my house? LOL. Yep, I never understand how people keep their areas clean, or are all photos staged. It is like under-layout photos, too. I'm lucky there aren't monsters breeding down there!
This was 9 years ago. The computer with the CRT is gone but not much else has changed. Just more stuff piled up where the computer was.
I'm running up the white flag right now. Jim has me beaten by miles. I should not have tidied up recently, but even then I could not compete.
Not too long after I got it installed. Currently it's covered with a 1/35th scale Oshkosk MRAP personal carrier..
Now that's a nice set up. Nothing ugly there. Nice collection of clamps. I've got a few clothes pins.
Drawer to the right of my chair is full of clamps. Also has a vice on a bracket which fits into slides under the bench, left side of the drawer. White wooden bar pops out easily. Keeps stuff from rolling off the work surface, and also holds the bottom edge of my drafting board.
Here is how it looks today, nine years later. Added a drop down spice rack under the main work area to hold rulers and other measuring devices and large files. A Dremil drill press on the right and just more stuff.
Also, on the left side of the left upper drawer, (end barely visible), there is a slide out built using PVC tubes, full of brass, styrene strips, etc.
This started out as a fun kind of joke but I've learned some helpful things and useful ideas so far. Funny how that works.
My work space varies from complete disaster area to immaculately organized, depending on current projects. The primary difference is that mine is a stand-up work desk.
This is a fun thread. I envy the space some of y'all have. Here's my space on an old desk with a pegboard surround. It's usually not this clean! I've found that good lighting is increasingly important as we age.
