I really enjoy this thread, there is some outstanding modeling going on here. The buildings and car spotting industries have given me some great ideas. Certainly not trying to highjack this either, just a couple pics of Tulle fabric I have used in making fences.

These are fences were built using .030 piano wire cut tapered on one end hammered into the base then took .025 steel wire soldered to the tops of the posts and used contact cement to glue the tulle fabric. The gates open and close as they are prefabbed and simply pushed into the base. A bit of advise, the best luck as far as cutting it in strips is place Blue tape over the fabric to help hold it for cutting, a straight edge and new blade in a hobby knife and you can cut the tulle in straight lines which helps in its application.

Yes, I love this thread and more importantly your layout. I keep forgetting though, that you switch to HO scale. I see something a lot and think "Wow, he was able to get that in N scale" ;). Gives me tons of ideas for my layout. Keep up the good work and progress updates.

Speaking of Switch Lists here's my version of a Los Angeles Junction Ry one. It's based on the ATSF Stand Form 818A because Santa Fe had a controlling interest since LAJ's beginning & in 1972 has wholly owned LAJ. It's not as long as the Santa Fe 100 car list mainly because there will never be a train that long on my LAJ layout. LOL In fact most lists will probably only use side. The back side adds enough room for switching cars at multiple Switch Leads. To use this or any switch list copy them on card stock. The Santa Fe lists were made the same size as their ETT to give more backing to write on & a place to "store" them.

LAJ Switchlist Front & Back Sides.JPG

Also attached is an aerial map of the LAJ. My MR version will only be the west side of the LA River (it runs overall from north to south). There's a total of 22 Switch Leads (16 west & 6 east of the LA River. My MR will only be doing 9 Switch leads on the west side plus a stub end ATSF Malabar Yard & Vernon Team. Their Team is literally right next door to LAJ's Fruitland Team & handles alot of "shapes" (any thing made out of metal) handled by boxcars, flat cars & gondolas. Cars coming there can come from just about anywhere in the US & Canada. That's also true of the LAJ. All my LAJ loco pix have freight cars in then because the sidings next to the engine house are R.I.P. tracks.
You freelance modelers should make a map to show fellow operators & modelers that that your MR is running in a place even if it is fictional. It will also give people a better understanding of where your trains are going "to" &/or coming "from".

Hate to be picking nits but the cold storage place would have asphalt if not concrete pavement vs that rather large ballast. If they did opt for a "rock" pavement it wouldn't be any larger than pea gravel if not smaller. Put one of your figure's foot on that stuff for comparison. Probably same thing applies for the scrap metal place. In fact that place would just leave it dirt if they never had a problem w/ water.

Thanks for showing the fence. I'd like to see more of the steel facility when you get time.
    Those shots are great!

Thanks Dale, I think I will start a thread on my outfit, so I don't clutter up this thread anymore.

What a great modeling idea! Another idea you have given me. A bunch of motorcycle models to use nowadays too.
    Thank You!

Love the fence and gates! On my layout, the DuPont Plant has a gate for the RR Tracks into the facility. I made it just like yours, only I drilled holes that are slightly larger than the posts. That way I can open and close the gates. It slows down the switching of the facility. Again, nice! JMS
