HI guys just wanted to show the first locomotive I weathered, its an Intermountain ES44AC NS 8098. I used an airbrush for the most part with hand painting the blacked out grills and then finished it off with powders. Any critics is welcome!
With the type modelled, I'm assuming the intent was to show a fairly new (read: low mileage) loco. With that given, the effects look very good. The one thing I would suggest is a little dry-brushed rusty color on at least the outer faces of the couplers. They always seem to be a dark orange-brown in my recollection, even when almost brand new.
Looks convincing to me, just dirty enough for its age. And I agree with Eagle2 - a litte rust on the couplers would be a welcome addition. I've never seen prototype couplers that weren't at least a little bit rusty.
It looks very good. You might check out rrpicturesarchives, there are many pages of the loco from 2012 up to now. Your model reflects how it looked in 2012. The couples definitely need rusting. But you did an excellent job. Just a bit clean for my usual weathering!
I like it. If anything, another layer of dust chalks. Maybe a pale color to mute the bright blue and new look. ry some light grey or tan. But either way it's already good.
Looking good. I would feather out the exhaust on the top a bit more. Having said that I've never weathered anything yet with an airbrush.
Exhaust is kind of hard to judge, we see very few pictures from a down perspective. If it was feathered out a bit more I would consider a bit of run-down of gray along the hood. I do like the idea of a bit of toning down of the bright blue, but that is a matter of taste. If I wanted to represent the loco as it looked in 2012, I don't think I would do it. BN, it looks great, this is all subjective to the viewer. If you do as originally suggested with the couplers, you will have a fine looking model. Keep up the good work!
Looks good to me. The thing about weathering for me, is to do a bit, look at it and think about a while, then add more, etc. It is easier to add extra then to remove any
