Saturday 1/16/16, 6:00AM A fire broke out on the 3rd floor of my townhouse. The place was total. Everyone is safe and sound. Long Story Short: Saturday 1/16/16 There was a fire in my townhouse. Total Loss Will likely be months before we can get back in. Everyone got out safe. We are staying at my wife's sister's home in Cambridge MA, (30 minute car ride). She has plenty of room soo, we are 'ok' while looking for an apartment, Her sister and brother in law are out of town so we are not imposing on them. ) Physically I am doing as well as ever. Mentally I'm holding it together - for now. We were able to retrieve some stuff but focused on cloths and a few plushies / toys / books for my grandson. I have no idea on the state of the Grey and Grandure. The only good news there is that my office area where the stuff is stored is untouched. I should be able to sell it. though that could be a year from now. Silver Linings It it had been 30 minutes later I would have been on my way to work. We have a place to say A friend of her sister's brought over two bags of groceries which was wondrous! They passed the hat at work The 'crew' of another friend sent some new toys / books for the grandson, (6yo). I am very proud of the grandson as he was brave in the face of danger. He remained calm and followed instructions even as adults were yelling all around him. We have reasons to believe cousins started a 'go fund me' page but cant find it. Everyone is safe and sound. Thank you, all of you. I have not been around for the past several months as family needed my focus. Still, I thought of you guys often. I am grateful to all of you for your company, contributions and well, just everything. Most likely when we can begin the renovation / repairs and such the Grey and Grandure will be permanently dismantled. I'll post back when I get a chance and life is less caotic. Overall life is good and I am happy. Thanks again everyone. I'm sorry to hear that; however very glad that everyone is safe. That is the most important. Take care and one day at a time things will come around.
Been thinking about sending you a PM. Wow. Sure glad to read that everyone is safe and OK. Stop by when you can and give us an update.
It sounds like your priorities are straight. Everyone is safe, the rest is just details. Good thoughts coming your way.
Wow! And I thought I had a bad weekend with a furnace failure. Prayers for you, bud. Glad all are safe, and I hope you are able to get back on your feet in good time. Keep us posted, and let us know if there's any way we can help...
Man that is tragic. Glad everyone is ok, more prayers coming your way. We've watched your railroad fighting for life for years and I would hate to see it become a Fallen Flag.
Steve, very glad you and Laura were safely out of harm's way, also that your sister can be so helpful as you get your lives back in order...God Speed.
Definitely people first, things second. Glad you and yours are safe and sound and seem to be being well taken care of. And with first responder experience (and lots of experience in properly disposing of "smoking materials") I hope the schmuck gets his...
I concur with all of the above comments and sure hope you and the family will come out OK after this disaster.
Thank you everyone. Life is good. My wife's boss started a 'gofundme' page which has helped a lot. She does not even know some of the people who contributed. People are good. I may become an official 'armchair model railroader'. I still like the dream.
Glad everyone is ok. Model railroads can be rebuilt, usually better than it was. People on the other hand can't. Best of luck .
