I realize this is heresy for some, but I prefer keeping my rolling stock and motive power in their original jewel cases when they are not in use. Having purchased quite a bit of pre-owned equipment I have obtained many cracked, damaged, and broken boxes in my time that have offended my OCD tendencies. I have replaced plenty of MT, Atlas, and Kato jewel cases over the years with new ones. the only ones I can't seem to find a line on are Intermountain. Anyone know of a online retailer that carries these? I have emailed IM about this but have yet to hear back from them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I am afflicted the same way, but the are medicines now to reduce the anxiety...... Most common is a great single barrel Bourbon!
There's a company called ***** ***** ***** that sells a lot of Kato jewel cases, but no InterMountain. Maybe the Katos would fit. I also sent a message to IM Customer Serv
Thanks Daryl. Yes, I have purchased cases from them several times. Just no IM cases. The Katos are too large.
I too use MTL cases as needed, purchased from ******, as the bulk of my stuff is MTL and came that way. There is the protection aspect but also the uniform size and nesting ability which works well with the storage system I've arrived upon using mailer boxes. Each mailer holds 32 standard car cases snugly with just enough room for a finger in the center between the rows to pick out jewel cases. As such they require no additional packing even for travel. The full mailer boxes in turn nest neatly on storage shelves in the closet. And when you need more room, fold up another one. Done. That started as a temporary quick fix until I figured out what I really needed but has worked so well that I now think it's the permanent method.

I also confirm that MTL jewel cases can be purchased and the insert at least for 40' boxcars was also available when I purchase cases for cars I have purchased as a kit on a card or second hand.
How can I identify an IM case. If I have any, they are yours. I could trade You for some MZt' to store Nolan's cars. Also, to the moderator. I'm sorry that I used a retailer's name, either a supporting vendor or anyone else. I'll try to do better in the future.
There are a few popular site that stock them. Also you might check with Mike Fifer and see if he stocks them. Jus sayin
If there are I haven't come across them. Care to point me in the right direction. Everyone has MT & Kato boxes. A few even have Atlas/Athearn cases. But no IMs.
It might not be the exact manufacturers Box, but as long as your item fits; it's a winner in my book. Check with Mike/Robin Fifer if they don't have them then maybe they can get them for you.
IM's website show they have cases for 40 & 50ft boxcars, 40ft reefers & cylindirial covered hoppers. Web site is www.intermountain-railway.com Go to Nscale accessoris list serveral cases with inserts. Do not list any engines. Dan
Dan, Thank You! I was looking in the wrong Accessories section on the website so missed the page you referred to. OK, now how do I order from the website? I've never seen a way to purchase items directly from IM. I see Advanced Order Forms, but those are for specific items only. There's no web store that I can see. Do I have to simply take the printout of the Accessories page and order them from a LHS? So it looks like the box car cases are available. For the loco cases I just might PM the fine folks above who offered to see if they have any new cases. Thanks so much guys!
Sorry to come in late, but you may also find that Eastern Seaboard Models have sizes that might fit. Bryan does have a range of boxes to fit his cars, and gets them made up to standard sizes. He may be able to help too. Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits www.nscalekits.com
