Hi All, I've been reading Trainboard for 3 or 4 months now after finding it while researching the DCC++ system. Finally decided to sign up to get some help on an area that's got me stumped. I live in a western Sydney suburb and have been exposed to MR for about 60 years as my Dad was an avid model railroader. I inherited a large cupboard of HO locos and rolling stock from Dad but only found the time to start a layout earlier this year. It started at 4 x 8 feet but then I decided it needed a double main-line so its now about 5 x 9 feet. I've laid track and wiring for the low level and I'm currently testing that. I'm using DCC for turnout control with Cobalt IP Digital motors. The track power is DC control for now as I have an ambition to run each of my Dad's locos a few times around the track before I convert some of them to DCC. I have purchased one DCC loco just for testing and so far its working fine. Next phase will be to start on the upper level track, probably in August. This is the first layout that's all my own work and I've already learned many lessons about things I could do better next time!
Hi Kencom. Welcome to TrainBoard! That sounds like a wonderful treasure-trove of model railroad equipment your father left you with. What a wonderful gift. You would always be welcome to share some photos of your old time locos, and of your progress with your layout. Again, welcome!
Welcome to TrainBoard! Many of us have been doing this for a long time and there is always more to learn. All part of the fun!
Hi Kencom, Welcome, glad to have you on board. Converting some of your Dad's locomotives to DCC may be a challenge if they are anything like the 50-60 year old designs I used to have, such as Varney, Bowser, Penn Line, etc.
G'day Kencom Welcome aboard. Lots of great folks on here. I have a friend in your area. and a brother in law in Melbourne.
Welcome aboard! Sounds like a great way to keep the memories alive. Best of luck and please do share your progress and questions as things move along.
Hi Kencom, welcome aboard!! I'm an EX Sydney (Hurstville) boy now in Perth, WA. Good luck with your layout and please keep us updated on your adventures. Cheers mate...
